Tivoli Storage Manager server updates
New features and other changes are available in the Tivoli® Storage Manager Version 7.1.3 server.
- Optimize a storage environment by using inline data deduplication
With Tivoli Storage Manager Version 7.1.3, you can define a type of storage pool that provides both inline and client-side data deduplication. You can use the new storage pool, directory-container, to protect backup and archive data. - Back up data to a cloud computing system
With Tivoli Storage Manager Version 7.1.3, you can define a new type of cloud-container storage pool. The cloud-container storage pool protects backup and archive data that is integrated with data deduplication. You can back up the data to either an IBM® SoftLayer or OpenStack Swift cloud computing system. - Archive diagnostic messages by using operating system tools
Tivoli Storage Manager Version 7.1.3 simplifies the process of archiving diagnostic messages by using operating system tools. To archive diagnostic messages, you do not have to reset the DBDIAGLOGSIZE server option every time that the server is started. - Start the server in maintenance mode
With Tivoli Storage Manager Version 7.1.3, maintenance mode is the preferred method for starting the server before you begin maintenance or reconfiguration tasks. When you start the server in maintenance mode, operations that might disrupt maintenance or reconfiguration tasks are automatically disabled. - Decommission a client node
With Tivoli Storage Manager Version 7.1.3, you can remove a client node from the production environment in a systematic way. - Deactivate data to free server storage space
Tivoli Storage Manager Version 7.1.3 simplifies the process of deleting active backup data that you no longer require. You can deactivate the data to ensure that the file will be deleted by the inventory expiration process. In this way, you can free storage space on the Tivoli Storage Manager server. - Narrow the search results when you query sessions
With Tivoli Storage Manager Version 7.1.3, you can narrow the search results of the QUERY SESSION command to obtain query output for specific clients. For example, if a Tivoli Storage Manager solution includes hundreds of clients, you can run the QUERY SESSION command with the CLIENTNAME parameter to obtain session information for a specified client or group of clients. - Specify an action for all client nodes
With Tivoli Storage Manager Version 7.1.3, you can use the DEFINE CLIENTACTION command to schedule one or more clients to process a command for a one-time action. - Monitor events by using operating system tools
If you install Tivoli Storage Manager Version 7.1.3 on a Linux operating system, you can configure the server to send event messages to the system error log. In this way, you can monitor events by using operating system tools. - Manage a Tivoli Storage Manager server on an HP-UX system
You can install a Tivoli Storage Manager Version 7.1.3 server, or upgrade the server to V7.1.3, on an HP-UX operating system. Using directory-container or cloud-container storage pools is not supported on an HP-UX operating system.
