Planning for IBM Storage Ceph Systems
Overview
IBM® Storage Ceph® system is a software-defined
storage solution that distributes data across clusters of storage resources. Most storage products
are block-only, file-only, object-only, or file-and-block. However, IBM Storage Ceph storage unifies file, block, and object
data into one system and hence it's a unified storage system. You can use IBM Storage Ceph system for its unified file-block-object
management, multi-platform support, scalability, and built-in fault tolerance.
Tips:
- IBM Storage Insights supports the monitoring of IBM Storage Ceph version 7 or later.
- Data collectors are not needed to monitor IBM Storage Ceph systems. IBM Storage Insights communicates directly with IBM Storage Ceph systems through Call Home with cloud services.
Enabling Call Home with cloud services
To integrate an IBM Storage Ceph system with
IBM Storage
Insights, Call Home with cloud services must be enabled in your IBM Storage Ceph system. For more information about how to
enable Call Home with cloud services in an IBM Storage Ceph system, see the following pages:
- To enable Call Home with cloud services using command line interface, see Enabling IBM Storage Insights support.
- To enable Call Home with cloud services using IBM Storage Ceph dashboard, see Enabling call home and IBM Storage Insights.
Benefits
IBM Storage
Insights can help you predict and prevent
storage problems before they impact your business. Some key benefits of using IBM Storage
Insights to monitor your IBM Storage Ceph system are as follows:
- View information about cluster ID, IP address, version, status, probe data collection, and many more.
- Monitor capacity information, such as used capacity, available capacity, and total capacity.
- Administer components like hosts, object storage demons, monitors, and managers.
What's next
When you enable Call Home with cloud services in IBM Storage Ceph system, you are now ready to add your IBM Storage Ceph systems to IBM Storage Insights.
For more information about adding IBM Storage Ceph for monitoring, see Adding IBM Storage Ceph systems.
