The vital product data (VPD) information contains information
about the disk unit which is the load-source disk unit.
If the VPD information is lost, the partition
might not IPL in A-mode or B-mode. Use the Work with Disk Units service
function in D-mode to refresh the VPD information.
- Enter Option 8 (Update system vital product data) on the
Work with Disk Units display. The following confirmation displays:

The disk unit information below identifies the load source whose
location will be written to the system vital product data.
Press enter to confirm the vital product data should be written.

The
load-source disk unit is identified in the display above.
- Press Enter to update the VPD.
- Press F3 to return to the Use Dedicated
Service Tools (DST) menu.
- On the Use Dedicated Service Tools (DST)
menu, select option 7 (Start a service tool).
- On the Start a Service Tool menu, select
option 7 (Operator panel functions) .
- On the Operator Panel Functions display,
select the IPL source and IPL mode. Press F8 to restart the partition
or press F10 to power off the partition.

IPL mode: 1 (1=Manual, 2=Normal, 3=Secure or 4=Auto)
Press Enter to change the IPL attributes and return
to the main DST menu.
Press F8 to set the IPL attributes and restart the system.
Machine processing will be ended and the system will be
restarted.
Press F10 to set the IPL attributes and power off the system.
Machine processing will be ended and the system will be
powered off.
Press F12 to return to the main DST menu without changing
IPL attributes.
After the VPD information is updated, you can IPL
the partition in A-mode or B-mode.
