Exporting datasets

You can export datasets from IBM® SPSS® Statistics to a number of different file formats. For more information on available export files types, see Saving data: Data file types.

Note: The available export options vary depending on the selected export data type.

Exporting to CSV format

  1. Open an existing SPSS Statistics dataset and make it the active tab (click anywhere in the tab to make it active).
  2. From the menus choose:

File > Export data > CSV data...

The CSV data export dialog displays and provides options for defining the CSV export attributes.

    Document
    File name
Enter the appropriate file name for the new data file. Click Change to specify an export file location.
    Encoding
    Select the appropriate encoding method.
    UNICODE (UTF-8)
Contains only ASCII characters and is identical to an ASCII file. Most legacy programs can handle UTF-8 encoded files. This is the default encoding.
    UNICODE (UTF-16)
Capable of encoding all Unicode code points. UTF-16 is incompatible with ASCII.
    UNICODE (UTF-16LE)
Allows for the little-endian byte order.
    UNICODE (UTF-16BE)
Allows for the big-endian byte order.
    Local encoding
Adheres to the operating system's encoding specification.
    Variables to export
    All
The default setting exports all available variables.
    Selected (x/x variables)
Provides options for selecting which variables to export.
    Advanced
    Write variable names to file
The default setting writes the variables names to the export CSV file.
Save value labels where defined instead of data values
When selected, defined value labels are written to the export CSV file (instead of actual data values).
  3. Click Export after specifying the CSV export parameters.
