Exporting datasets
You can export datasets from IBM® SPSS® Statistics to a number of different file formats. For more information on available export files types, see Saving data: Data file types.
Note: The available export options vary depending on the selected export data
type.
Exporting to CSV format
- Open an existing SPSS Statistics dataset and make it the active tab (click anywhere in the tab to make it active).
- From the menus choose:
The CSV data export dialog displays and provides options for defining the CSV export attributes.
- Document

- File name
- Enter the appropriate file name for the new data file. Click Change to specify an export file location.
- Encoding
- Select the appropriate encoding method.
- UNICODE (UTF-8)
- Contains only ASCII characters and is identical to an ASCII file. Most legacy programs can handle UTF-8 encoded files. This is the default encoding.
- UNICODE (UTF-16)
- Capable of encoding all Unicode code points. UTF-16 is incompatible with ASCII.
- UNICODE (UTF-16LE)
- Allows for the little-endian byte order.
- UNICODE (UTF-16BE)
- Allows for the big-endian byte order.
- Local encoding
- Adheres to the operating system's encoding specification.
- Variables to export

- The default setting exports all available variables.
- Selected (x/x variables)
- Provides options for selecting which variables to export.
- Advanced

- Write variable names to file
- The default setting writes the variables names to the export CSV file.
- Save value labels where defined instead of data values
- When selected, defined value labels are written to the export CSV file (instead of actual data values).
- Click Export after specifying the CSV export parameters.
