General Updates
You can now prioritize which containers and objects get backed up first. This gives you more control over your backup process, ensuring that your most critical data is always protected without delay.
Power BI restore is now available. You can restore Power BI workspace permissions, reports, and datasets. This feature supports both in-place and out-of-place restoration, with conflict handling and BYOS options.
IBM® Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft™ 365 now supports custom apps with delegated permissions, including Power Platform and Viva Engage scenarios, across all service types.
SharePoint site, OneDrive, and Group sites can now be restored directly to Microsoft Teams channel sites as destinations, to expand restore flexibility for Teams-centric organizations.
Teams based on the education-specific templates can now be restored with correct metadata and channels, preserving the original structure.
Support for exporting mailbox data from Microsoft Teams is now available. This allows you to export data at the Group mailbox level, as well as from individual mailbox folders and items. Note that exporting Group mailbox data is only available in the Search mode.

Folder-level content deletion is now supported for OneDrive backup data, in addition to item-level deletion.
Copilot agent files in SharePoint Online/Microsoft 365 Group/Teams/Viva Engage sites can now be restored.
The Backup Data eDiscovery function now supports OneDrive, allowing users to search across OneDrive backup data and export, restore, or delete content from a selected recovery point. To enable content-based search, contact support to upgrade your subscription (additional cost applies).
When restoring a OneDrive library to another library, you can now select the Attach action to create a new folder named after the source username in the destination library.
The High-Speed Migration (HSM) restore method is now available for item-level restore operations.
Due to Microsoft’s deprecation of classic publishing sites in SharePoint Online, will now restore classic publishing sites as communication sites.

To restore comments added to Planner tasks, you must configure an app profile for the delegated app in IBM Storage Protect for Cloud and select the Restore Planner task comments function when consenting to the app profile.
The unusual activity email notification is now split into two separate emails: one for unusual activities and another for potential ransomware attacks. You can create separate notification profiles to address different scenarios.
For errors with error codes, you can now skip specific errors by error codes to prevent them from affecting the job status in Settings > Backup.
IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 now supports configuring a data retention period of less than one year at the container level.

New navigation updates are being rolled out, delivering a more intuitive, consistent, and efficient user experience. In IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365, the left navigation pane has been updated to include the Activity and System sections. The Activity section now includes the Report center (renamed from Reporting) and Job monitor, and the System section includes Settings, System auditor, and Help
IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 now supports Google Cloud Storage for customers with a BYOS subscription
The Manually delete backup data feature has been enhanced, allowing you to easily search and delete documents and folders across Team sites, Group sites, and private/shared channel sites. This enhancement integrates these sites under the SharePoint Online module, making global site collection searches more seamless.
When restoring Exchange Online mailbox items in the Calendar mode, you can now sort the Name, Sent from, and Sent time columns in either ascending or descending order.
BYOS users using Amazon S3 storage will now see an update in the storage class from S3 Standard to S3 Glacier Instant Retrieval. Starting with the February release, all new data will automatically be stored in the S3 Glacier Instant Retrieval class.
The Last Modified By column has been added to the list of files with unusual activities now showing the email addresses of users who last added or modified the files.
The Modern API now supports retrieving basic information about unusual activities in IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365.

A Quick check feature has been added in the upper-right corner of the interface to ensure all permissions and settings are correctly configured.
For the Exchange Online service, support has been added for protecting the Versions subfolder in the Recoverable Items folder, in addition to the Deletions, Purges, and DiscoveryHolds subfolders.
Exchange Online mailboxes in the Restore queue can now be restored to another location. You can also select the Domain mapping mode and choose a configured domain mapping profile for domain mapping.
In Settings > Notification, a Default service monitoring group has been added to receive high-level notification emails. This built-in group cannot be deleted.
The time range for audit records to export can now be defined in Reporting > System auditor.
In Job monitor, you can now filter job records by a custom date range, and records can also be exported within a custom time range.
When restoring and exporting Exchange Online mailboxes/folders, items can be selected based on a custom sent time range.
The user experience for downloading exported data and obtaining the decryption password has been improved with updates to the interface.
The Job status column is now available in the Backup Coverage Report downloaded from the Backup coverage section of the Coverage report.
The top five errors in a job will be listed in the job information retrieved by the Modern API.

IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Azure VMs, Storage, and Entra ID is now supported in the Brazil South (Sao Paulo State) data center.
The public APIs provided by IBM Storage Protect for Cloud will be retired in the future. We recommend using the modern APIs to get the audit records, subscription consumption, and job information for IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365.
For restore and export jobs in progress, IBM Storage Protect for Cloud now provides additional information by displaying both successful items and items with errors on the Job monitor > Job details page.
Administrators can now control access to message search and browsing with the Teams Chat Restore wizard in Settings > Security.
Administrators can now enable the approval process for data deletion requests from Manually delete backup data and Data subject access requests in Settings > Security. Once enabled, this process cannot be disabled due to security measures.
IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 now supports folder-level content deletion, in addition to document-level deletion, for SharePoint Online backup data.
When restoring Exchange Online backup data in the Calendar mode, the Sent from and Sent time columns are now available to provide additional information about mailbox items.
The user experience for filters in Job monitor and System auditor has been improved.
The out-of-policy logic forIBM Storage Protect for Cloud for Power Platform has been enhanced. When your enterprise license is out of policy, backups will stop after 90 days.
A Deletion history tab has been added to Data management > Remove unprotected data to display the deletion records of unprotected objects whose backup data has been deleted.
When restoring Exchange Online backup data, you can now choose to restore backup data for any previously deleted content within the current backup cycle.
When restoring Exchange Online mailboxes in the Restore queue, they will be restored sequentially from first to last as listed. The objects in the Restore queue are ordered by their addition time, from oldest to newest. The batch import maintains the order of objects as specified in the uploaded template.
The Microsoft 365 unusual activities analysis report now includes records for deleted files in the downloaded list.
For objects no longer in the backup scope, users with Restore permission to the last container where the object existed can now restore its backup data, not just administrators. Note that only objects removed after the August release are supported.

In IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365, administrators can now configure the End-user restore settings to control whether to allow the flow creator and owners to export Power Automate cloud flows in Cloud Recovery Portal.
We have enhanced the retention logic for IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 subscription renewals. If your updated subscription has a shorter retention period than your current configuration, your retention periods will be automatically adjusted to match the new subscription limits. If your updated subscription has the same or longer retention period than your existing configuration, no changes will be made. To verify your configuration and ensure you are aware of any changes, refer to Settings > Retention.
For BYOS customers, you can now set a password for encryption keys and configure whether to allow IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 to copy the encryption keys to your BYOS storage weekly through Settings > System > Encryption keys.
The Notification center has been updated to display alerts for subscription expiration, out-of-policy conditions, and changes to BYOS. It no longer displays information about purchased and consumed data sizes. For detailed subscription information, refer to the subscription consumption report.
IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 now offers enhanced permission control by enabling administrators to assign either View Only or View and Edit permission to users for backup management.
If you switch your storage from the default storage to BYOS, you have the option to retain all current backup data stored in the default storage for 90 days. Further details will be provided in the coming weeks.
IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 now supports SharePoint Online for Data subject access requests. You can discover and delete site collections from SharePoint Online backups in response to GDPR-related requests.
The Recovery Point column is now available in the restore and export job report to show the recovery point selected for restore or export.

IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 Groups now offers an optimized restore experience to provide more precise selections for the restore to another location.
For Tenant Owner in email notifications and job reports, the Tenant ID is displayed together with the email address for reference.
In Manually delete backup data, you can now search for backup data by parent folder name or path.
When restoring Exchange Online mailboxes in the Calendar mode, you can now select and add mailboxes to Queue for restore, and then restore them together in a single job.
We have improved the email notification sent for unusual activities and potential ransomware attacks.
You can now set an approval process for the deletion requests from Manually delete backup data and Data subject access requests. To learn more and enable this feature, contact the IBM support team.
If the customer is using the default storage location, the storage information on Microsoft Azure or Amazon S3 storage is displayed on the Settings > Storage page.
For errors with the error code SP-OneNoteBackupFailed, we will continue to protect the OneNote section files that have been skipped due to the error when Microsoft resolves the issue.
We have improved the job report for backup/restore/export/deletion jobs. For jobs which you previously generated reports for, you can Regenerate report in Job monitor to get the updated report.
For IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365, the date format displayed in the interface and job reports now follows the Culture settings in IBM Storage Protect for Cloud.

- For customers with more than 100 assigned user seats, the monthly limitation on the amount of content that can be exported in IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 has been updated to 500 GB. For customers with 100 or less assigned user seats, the monthly limitation remains 100 GB.
- In IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365, administrators can now configure the end-user restore setting to control whether to allow Teams users to export Teams Chat backup data in IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Recovery Portal.
- Microsoft Teams channel no longer supports Wiki tab. You can download your Wiki files from SharePoint or use IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 to export the Wiki backup data.

The following new features and improvements are made to the new experience of the IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365:
- IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Auto discovery scan profiles created after the June 2023 release only use app profile authentication, and the backup jobs for protecting the objects scanned in app context (app profile authentication) use app profile authentication only, apart from Project Online. For site collections (of SharePoint Online, Microsoft 365 Groups, Teams, or Viva Engage), the hybrid mode is now provided. In the hybrid mode, IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 jobs will, by default, use an app profile in backup and restore. For the data types that are unsupported in the app context, service account authentication will be used automatically. Note that the use of service accounts is not the recommended method as it attracts an increased potential for throttling issues. To learn more and enable the mode, contact IBM Software Support team.
- IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 now supports the backup of Public Folder metadata via the app profile authentication. To protect Public Folder metadata, ensure your backup for Public Folder metadata is enabled and the Exchange Administrator role is assigned to the app in Microsoft Entra ID.
- IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 now supports the backup of the Purges and DiscoveryHolds subfolders in the Recoverable Items folders, in addition to the Deletions subfolder. To learn more and enable this feature, contact IBM Software Support team.
- Backup services for Teams, Groups, and SharePoint Online now offer an optimized restore experience to notify you of objects with unusual activity or under potential ransomware attack.
- With Azure BYOS storage, IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 will write your new backup data to the cold tier by default to reduce storage costs.
- Updated the Yammer service name to Viva Engage, as Microsoft has rebranded Yammer to Viva Engage.
- The First backup time column is now available in the Coverage report.
- The IP address column is now available in the System auditor and you can get the Job ID of the corresponding job in the Event column.

- We have improved the user experience for the Encryption keys page..
- By default, sharing links for SharePoint Online and Team/Group data won't be restored when end users restore the backup data through IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Recovery Portal. To enable the restore of sharing links, you can go to Settings > End-user restore > End-user restore settings for IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Recovery Portal and turn on the Allow IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Recovery Portal users to recover sharing links switch in the IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 interface.
- If you purchased a subscription for BYOS (Bring your own storage) but are currently using IBM Storage Protect for Cloud default storage for your backup data, your backup jobs will fail and we will send you an email notification every 7 days to remind you to update your BYOS storage configuration.
- We have improved the user experience for the Settings > Retention page.
- The Details page is added to Reporting > Coverage report to show protected object details and you can click an object name for the backup details in its last backup job.
- You can now restore the files in a standard channel or a Team site to another channel site or Team site. You can also restore the files in a Group site to another Group site.
- Long-running full backup jobs for Exchange Online will no longer be automatically split off and the incremental backup jobs will run in parallel.
- Microsoft Teams channel no longer supports Wiki tab and it offers the capability to export your wiki content to OneNote notebook. If you exported your Wiki content to Notes through Teams before performing a restore, you can no longer view or access the restored Wiki content through Teams. We recommend you use IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 to export the Wiki backup data.

- IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 supports using the free Microsoft Graph API to protect Teams Chats. You can go to the Settings Backup page to choose from the Graph API or the Teams Export API model B for Teams Chat backup. Using Graph API can potentially result in less optimal performance compared to the Teams Export API model B.
- IBM Storage Protect for Power Platform has a new standalone subscription which protects all your Power Platform objects.
- The Coverage report has been added to Reporting to show what has been protected according to service types, the protected data size of each service, and backup trends.
- The Restore analytics report is added to Reporting Job analytics to show the number of restore jobs according to service types performed within the last 7, 30, 90 or 180 days and the restore trend.
- Through the Settings > End-user Restore page in the IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 interface, you can now choose whether to allow Cloud Recovery Portal users to restore Power BI reports and define the roles for who can perform these restores via Cloud Recovery Portal.
- You can now restore the backup data of OneDrive for Business or a SharePoint Online site to a Team's team site.

The following new features and improvements are made to the new experience of the IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365:
- The new user interface is now set as the default user interface. However, the old user interface will still be available for you to use until the August release.
- IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 supports the backup and restore of Power Apps. For details, refer to Power Apps.
- You can now configure service apps for IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365. If you do not have service apps, IBM Storage Protect for Cloud will use the Microsoft 365 default app or the custom app to protect your data. For details, refer to Authentications in Auto Discovery and Backup.
- The onboarding wizard that appears when you sign into IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 interface for the first time has been improved. You can now get a thorough check on your preparations before enabling the backup services. For details, refer to Set Up the Backup Wizard.
- IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 now supports the backup and restore of Planner data via the App profile authentication. If you are an existing customer who has been using service account authentication for auto discovery or using the app profile authentication with an additional delegated app to protect Planner data, your Planner data will continuously be protected. If you are using app profile authentication only for auto discovery, the data protection for Planner data is disabled by default. You can go to the Settings > Backup to select the Back up Planner data option to enable the data protection for Planner data.
- You can now use App Profile Authentication to scan Project Online site collections, but you must have at least one service account with enough permissions configured for the backup and restore.
- To protect Public Folders data, you must configure impersonation accounts after the June 2023 release. For existing customers, your impersonation accounts previously configured in the IBM Storage Protect for CloudIBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 interface will be synchronized to . You can check and configure the impersonation accounts through Settings > Backup.
- IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Auto discovery scan profiles created after June 2023 release will only use the app profile authentication. If you want to continue using service account authentication or hybrid mode for Auto discovery scan jobs and IBM Storage Protect for Cloud jobs, you must not update your Auto discovery scan profiles. Once the scan profiles are modified, the service account authentication method and the service account pool users will be obsolete from Auto discovery. In addition, if you are an existing customer with MFA-enabled tenants and keep using the previously configured scan profiles after June 2023 release, you can continue using IBM Storage Protect for Cloud services and apps and you can also update the MFA service account settings. In the IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Service accounts page, the MFA enabled property is no longer available. When you click the profile name of an MFA service account, you will be automatically redirected to the classic UI to view the details and update the profile settings.

- IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 has upgraded the user experience with new designs and enhanced features. You can click the Try it now at the bottom of the navigation panel to try the new service and features in the new experience. The new experience is currently a Preview version.
- The Power BI service is now available in the new IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 experience. You can export the backup of the Power BI reports to a local location.
- In the new IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 interface, you can now configure IBM Storage Protect - S3 storage or IBM Cloud Object Storage to store your backup data.
- In the new IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 interface, the information on the Backup page is automatically refreshed every ten minutes or each time you go back to the Backup page. You can also click the Refresh button on the upper-right corner of the Backup page to retrieve the latest backup information for your backup services.
- In the new IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 interface, the feature to append new storage is only available to customers who have appended storage before. Some backup settings that are less frequently used are removed from the new user experience. You can go to the legacy UI to configure these settings.
- You can now choose to back up shared channels for Teams. This feature in the new experience is currently in preview.
- In the new interface, the Submit feedback feature is displayed in the Help list, and you will be redirected to IBM Storage Protect for Cloud to submit the contact support request and feedback.
- Backup for OneDrive for Business now uses Microsoft Graph API for improved performance. If you use the default app profile, you must re-authorize the app through IBM Storage Protect for Cloud App Management. If you use a custom app, you need to manually update your app permissions. Graph API has been more focused on protecting OneDrive content and it has some limitations, such as it cannot protect the file versions. You can refer to the OneDrive Data Types for more details. If you require any additional assistance, contact IBM Software Support.
- If a Teams incremental backup job has been running for 2 days and the backup for the team’s metadata and mailboxes has been completed, the team’s team site and the private/shared channel sites that are still running for backup will be split up and continue to run in the backup.
- When performing a document-level restore, the version settings are no longer available in the restore settings. The restore job will restore the selected document versions.
- Hidden lists in SharePoint sites (including SharePoint Online sites, Teams team sites, Group team sites, Yammer community sites, and Project Online sites) are now excluded from the backup scope for better performance. If you want to include the hidden lists in your backup, contact IBM Software Support for assistance.
- Hidden folders in the mailboxes (including Exchange Online mailboxes, Group mailboxes, and Teams group mailboxes) will be excluded from the backup for better performance. If you want to include the hidden folders in your backup, contact IBM Software Support for assistance.
- The Backup Data eDiscovery function is now available in IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 service. You can search for emails across Exchange Online mailbox backup data and then download the file list in the search result or perform data exportation, recovery, or deletion on the backup data of the selected recovery points. To enable this function in your tenant, contact IBM Software Support.
- To protect Teams chats, you must now configure a custom app profile with access to the Export API. The Teams Chat service will use the Export API model B by default. If you want to use Model A, contact IBM Software Support for assistance.

- To protect Teams chat messages for your Microsoft 365 users, you must request access to Microsoft Graph Teams Export API and configure a custom Azure app in your tenant with the required API permissions. For the required permissions of the custom app, refer to App Profile Authentication.
Note: IBM Storage Protect for Cloud will use the Export API Model B, and it will cost you $0.00075 per message for the protection of Teams chat. If you would like to switch to Model A, which has additional requirements for the supported license, contact IBM Software Support for assistance.
- The Microsoft 365 Unusual Activities Analysis Report now supports reporting suspicious SharePoint Online sites with unusual activities or that are under potential attack.
- If you configured an app profile as your scan profile authentication method with a service account profile as the supplementary, the IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 jobs will use app profile authentication first to protect your scanned objects and use service account authentication to protect the data types that fail in app context.
- The User.Read.All permission has been added to the Microsoft Delegated app for IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365. You can re-authorize that app through the IBM Storage Protect for Cloud App Management page. For details, refer to Re-authorize the Microsoft Delegated App.
- You no longer need to configure super users to decrypt the IRM protected files in backup. If you select the Decrypt the files protected by Information Rights Management (IRM) option, the IRM protected files will be decrypted during backup, and these files can be accessible to the destination users after being recovered.
- You can now stop a restore or export job in Job Monitor.
- When browsing a private channel backup data of a selected backup job in the Teams Restore wizard, you can select the Show the private channel site option to display and drill down the private channel site to find the content that you want to restore.
- IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 is now available in Australia East (New South Wales) data center.

- IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Recovery Portal for Microsoft 365 is now available to the end users in your organization to perform data recovery for their own OneDrive for Business and Exchange mailbox content using the backup data generated by IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365. For details, refer to Recovery Portal for End Users.
- On the End-User Restore Settings page of IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 interface, your application administrator or service provider can choose to allow IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Recovery Portal users to restore backup data stored at the archive tier of Azure Blob storage.
- The Teams Chat service is now available in IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 interface to protect the Teams chat messages of Microsoft 365 users. In the current release, Teams chat messages can only be exported to HTML files for data recovery.
- SSO (Single Sign-on) is now supported. When you access IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 via the direct URL, you do not need to provide user credentials to sign in once it is detected that you have signed into IBM Storage Protect for Cloud.

- German is now an available display language for IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 and the Germany West Central (Frankfurt) data center is now supported.
- Microsoft Delegated app can now be used to protect Planner data. If you have a Microsoft Delegated app for restoring Teams channel conversations as posts, the authentication user of the Microsoft Delegated app will now be automatically deleted from the Team members and private channel members after the restore completes.
- Long-running backup performance has been improved. Full backup jobs that have been running for a long time will not be split off or paused until they are finished. Scheduled backup jobs to protect incremental changes will run in parallel with the full.
- You can now protect Planner data with a Delegated app when using app profile authentication for Auto Discovery. To protect Planner data in app context, you can go to the App Management page in the IBM Storage Protect for Cloud interface to configure a delegated app for IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 with the Protect Planner data option selected. The authentication user must have the Global administrator role and an Exchange license.

- IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 now supports configuring a data retention period that is less than one year.
- When you are restoring a site collection (of SharePoint Online, Microsoft 365 Groups, Teams, or Yammer), a group, a team, or a community, you can now choose to restore the hub site connection for the site. Note that this feature does not support cross-tenant restores.
- The Microsoft 365 Unusual Activities Analysis Report is now available to show the unusual activities detected in your OneDrive for Business backups. This report requires OneDrive accounts to have at least 12 days of incremental backups with changes. The report displays an overview of the unusual activities tracked over the last 30 days and provides a Restore option on that page to directly recover the OneDrive account to a safe state.
- By default, IBM Storage Protect for Cloud Microsoft 365 uses V2 authentication to access your Amazon S3 Compatible storage. If you want to use V4 authentication, add SignatureVersion=V4 as an extended parameter when providing the storage information.
