Restoring a server when files are missing

If an IBM Spectrum® Protect server must be restored, but you do not have all of the required files or directories, you can re-create the missing files or directories and potentially restore the server.

About this task

If one or more of the following required items are missing, you must re-create the missing files or directories and secure communication to restore the server and its operations:
  • Database and recovery log directories
  • Server options file (dsmserv.opt)
  • Device configuration file (for example, devconf.dat)
  • Volume history file (for example, volhist.dat)
  • Master encryption key files (dsmkeydb.kdb or dsmkeydb.sth)
  • Server certificate and private key files (cert.kbd or cert.sth)

Procedure

To restore the server, complete the following tasks in order:

  1. Re-creating the server instance
  2. Reestablishing server-to-server communication when you are missing cert.kbd or cert.sth files
  3. Re-creating the device configuration file
  4. Contact IBM® Software Support to re-create the volume history file (for example, volhist.dat).
  5. Restoring the server database and master encryption key files
  6. Reestablishing client node and administrative client communication when cert.kbd or cert.sth files are missing
