Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) Object Lock for cloud storage pools

For IBM Spectrum® Protect 8.1.15, you can use Amazon S3 Object Lock in cloud container storage pools to help prevent objects from being deleted or overwritten.

IBM Spectrum® Protect 8.1.15 uses Amazon's S3 Object Lock in cloud container storage pools. Cloud data lock leverages Amazon S3's Object Lock feature for immutable Write Once Read Many (WORM) storage. Cloud data lock applies only to data after it is written to cloud storage. To store IBM Spectrum® Protect data, enable cloud data lock while defining the storage pool to help protect containers in an Amazon S3 storage pool from being deleted or overwritten. IBM Spectrum Protect 8.1.15 uses Amazon S3 Object Lock to store objects using a Write Once Read Many (WORM) model. WORM model protects data by only making it accessible for read only purposes.

Amazon S3 Object Lock setting is enabled for Amazon Web Services (AWS) during bucket creation. Amazon S3 Object Lock protects the ingested data from clients or tiered to cloud container storage pool only when the data is written to the AWS bucket.

Amazon S3 Object Lock is available only for new cloud container storage pools and AWS buckets. You must setup and configure the bucket by using the AWS objects console.
