Send data to IBM Spectrum Protect by using S3 client applications

In earlier releases, you could use the Simple Storage Service (S3) protocol to copy data from IBM Spectrum Protect Plus to IBM Spectrum Protect. Beginning with IBM Spectrum Protect Version 8.1.11, you can copy data from other types of S3 client applications to IBM Spectrum Protect.

To streamline the integration of other S3 clients and IBM Spectrum Protect, a new client type is introduced: the OTHER object client. The OTHER object client makes it possible to copy data from various S3 clients to IBM Spectrum Protect, and retrieve the data when necessary.

After setting up the object agent, you can register the S3 client as an object client to the IBM Spectrum Protect server by using the REGISTER NODE command. Then, you can start an object agent service on the system that is hosting the IBM Spectrum Protect server. The object agent receives requests from the object client to enable the direct movement of data from the S3 client to IBM Spectrum Protect.
