WiFi Signal Quality

The Wifi Signal Quality widget displays radio signal strength indicator (RSSI) or SnR Margin of all stations since last poll.

Important: Not all vendors support both.
Note: Wifi Signal Quality widget is supported on Cisco Airespace and Aruba.

Data

The Data tab enables you to select the resources to graph.

Wifi Signal Quality Data

Perform the following steps to set the widget settings for Data tab.

  1. Click the Datasource drop-down and select the SevOne NMS cluster or appliance.
  2. Click the Device Group drop-down and select one device group.
Important: The device group selected must contain APs (Access points) whose data you want to see in this widget.
  3. Enter the number of APs to be fetched in the text field provided for the Number of APs to be fetched option. The default number of configured APs is 1000.
  4. Click Run to generate a Wifi Signal Quality report based on the configuration.
  5. In the report generated, the following tables are presented into the report along with the radial display. It can be filtered by the device.
    • Radial Display - to show up-to-date radio signal strength indicator (RSSI) SnR Margin of all stations that meet the filter criteria in a radial display. It displays the quality rings. Stations are displayed around a virtual access point. A pop-up appears when you hover over a station with the summary stats for that station.
Important: On the scatter plot, stations with white circle around them indicate that their IP address is 0.0.0.0.
Important: Last Updated information available from prior version has been removed from Radial Display. The reason is that in the prior version, the data was obtained from the JSON file and it contained the timestamp which indicated when the file was last updated. However, in Wifi 2.3 + due to the Device Object Indicators model changes, Wifi Stations are based on device groups which are an aggregation of multiple JSON files. Due to this, there is no particular timestamp to indicate the Last Updated information. So, the last updated information has been removed from the user interface.
    • Client Summary by SSID - to show the client summary by SSID.
    • Client Summary by Access Point - to show the client summary by Access Points.
    • Client Summary - to show the client summary.
    • Search any station - This option is used to search for a particular station from all available stations. Station can be searched by using any of the following options.
      • User Name - Enter the exact username in the text field provided and click Search to filter out the results based on the username entered.
      • MAC Address - Enter the exact MAC address in the text field provided and click Search to filter out the results based on the MAC address entered.
      • IP Address - Enter the exact IP address in the text field provided and click Search to filter out the results based on the IP address entered.
Note: Click Clear to change the selection to the last applied state.
        Important:
        • The search functionality works with the exact match only.
        • Search any station feature is available for customers running SevOne NMS 5.7.2.32 or higher.
    • Each table provides the search and sort capability.
      Example
Wifi Signal Quality Charts Signal quality normal 1
Note: TX Bytes and RX Bytes columns show the actual number of bytes that are transmitted/received by the wifi station during the last polling cycle.
      Note: After generating a report
Replace Untitled Report name with an appropriate report name. For example, Wifi Signal Quality Report.

Replace Untitled Section name with an appropriate name. For example, Wifi Signal Quality.
Example: Large Scale Environment (>1000 stations)
      Wifi Signal Quality scale
Note: Radial Display and Client Summary table show the following message when the station count exceeds 1000.

Selected station count exceeds limit (1000). Use the SSID and AP tables or the search to filter out the station.

Linking

The Linking tab enables you to select a data element and link it to a related report or report template. Perform the following steps to add, delete, and edit links. Linking for the Wifi Signal Quality widget works with the tables (Client Summary by SSID, Client Summary by Access Point, and Client Summary by Client) along with the radial display.

Wifi Signal Quality Report Linking

Perform the following steps to set the widget settings for Linking tab.

  1. Include report links allows you to include the report links that you configure. Enable to include the report link that you configure. If you want to prevent the report link from being included, disable it. Continue with the steps below to configure report link(s).
