Performance Metrics Widget

The Performance Metrics widget enables you to view, analyze, and interact with time series data leveraging various chart visualizations. Perform the steps below to configure settings for the Performance Metrics widget.

Data

The Data tab enables you to select the indicators for which you want to view, analyze, and interact.

Perform the following steps to set the widget settings for Data tab.

  1. For Datasource and Resource Type settings, please refer to section Select Widget Resources in Create.
    Important:
Resource Type, Object, allows you to search on object description, device display name, and plugin.ObjectName. You must enter a string in double-quotes. Search can also be performed on a word. You may enter one or more strings/words in Resource Type > Object.

    Example# 1
If you enter "IP of device" echo CPU196640, these are 3 key terms to search on. All objects containing IP of device, echo, and CPU196640 will be available to choose from.
IP of device is in double-quotes as the search is on all words with space in between. A string can have one or more spaces in it.

    Example# 2
If you enter IP of device echo CPU196640, these are 5 key terms to search on. All objects containing IP, of, device, echo, and CPU196640 will be available to choose from.

    Example# 3
If you enter CPU, all objects containing CPU will be available to choose from. It can return objects such as CPU196640, CPU196632, etc.

  2. Once all the resources are selected, click Add to resources.
Note: Execute this step only if you need to remove a resource query,
    • Select one or more options from the Current resources list or you may select the select all check box to choose all the resources in the list. Click the Remove button to remove the current resources.
  3. Click Run to generate a Performance Metrics report based on the configuration.
Note: Run button is only available when one or more fields are changed in the Data tab.

    Example

    Performance Metrics - Data

Analyze

The Analyze tab enables you to define settings for the data you retrieve (such as, aggregation, baseline, time-over-time, units, work hours, etc.) and to use data analysis features.

Performance Metrics - Analyze

Perform the following steps to set the widget settings for Analyze tab.

  1. Units
    1. Select Bits for network-oriented data or Bytes for server-oriented data.
    2. Select the Use percentage check box to compare capacity or leave clear to compare the relative values of the different metrics.
  2. AGGREGATION
    1. Enable Enable aggregation to aggregate the data to produce meaningful reports that can be easily interpreted at a glance. Disable to graph each data point which for some data may clutter the display.
Important: Disabling aggregation or using a custom aggregation may hinder performance or prevent the widget from producing results.
Custom aggregation time-buckets are disabled for Heatmap and Calendar Heatmap visualizations as they are dictated by the report time range. The type of aggregation (Average, Maximum, Minimum, and Total) can still be used within the report.
    2. Enable the Use auto check box to have SevOne Data Platform use the aggregation that best fits your screen resolution.
Warning: The Use auto option is enabled by default. If you disable auto-aggregation (by clearing the check box), you may experience significant performance issues. If necessary, only advanced users should disable auto-aggregation.
    3. Click the Type drop-down and select one of the following options:
      • Average - to display an average aggregation that is true to the data.
      • Maximum - to graph the highest value.
      • Minimum - to graph the lowest value.
      • Total - to aggregate all data.
Important: If the Use auto option is not enabled, then configure the following fields.
        • In the Size Period field, enter the amount of time you want to collect data before data is saved and a new bucket is created.
        • Click the Size Units drop-down and select the unit of measure for the aggregation size time period.
  3. SUMMARY SERIES

Summary Series aggregates and summarizes alike series in the chart. Series with matching indicator types are summarized.

    1. Enable Summarize Series to view all indicators with the display of each indicator as a separate row along with a Group Summary row appended at the bottom of the table. When disabled, the Group Summary row is not included.
Note: When Summarize Series is enabled, all indicators must have the same display units.
      • Enable Hide Original Series to only show new aggregated series. When disabled, Hide Original Series shows both the original and the new aggregated series.
      • Click the Summary Aggregation drop-down and select which aggregation function you want to use for the summary. Periodicity matches the AGGREGATION setting. Select one of the following options:
        • Average - to display an average aggregation that is true to the data.
        • Maximum - to graph the highest value.
        • Minimum - to graph the lowest value.
        • Total - to aggregate all data.
  4. DOWNSAMPLING
    1. Enable Enable downsampling to present the most important information while maintaining responsiveness when working on very large data sets or smaller graph spaces. While preserving meaningful peaks and valleys, downsampling intelligently excludes extraneous data points that do not impact visualization. For additional details on downsampling algorithm, please refer to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramer%E2%80%93Douglas%E2%80%93Peucker_algorithm.
  5. BASELINES
    1. Enable Enable baselines to display each indicator's baseline on the graph. SevOne Data Platform automatically computes baselines. Baselines appear on the graph as dashed, light colored, box shaped lines. The Number of standard deviations enables you to enter a standard deviation multiplier that displays the measure of dispersion in a frequency distribution equal to the square root of the mean of the squares of the deviations from the arithmetic mean of the distribution.
  6. TIME-OVER-TIME
    1. Enable Enable time-over-time to display comparative data for a previous relative time span on the graph. For example, you may run a report for Monday with a time over time period of 10 weeks to display a line on the graph of the past 10 Monday's aggregated data.
    2. From the time over time type drop-down and select one of the following options:
      • Average - to display the average value for each aggregated data point in the corresponding timespan.
      • Maximum - to display the highest value for each aggregated data point in the corresponding timespan.
      • Minimum - to display the lowest value for each aggregated data point in the corresponding timespan.
      • Total - to display the sum of all aggregated data points in the corresponding timespan.
    3. In the Period field, enter the number of previous occurrences to aggregate for time over time comparison. Then, click the drop-down and select the Units of measure for the time period.
    4. Select Display only time over time data check box to display only the time over time line on the graph without any other indicator data. Clear the check box to display both indicator data and time over time data.
  7. TREND
    1. Enable Enable trend to set trend Type and trend Algorithm.
    2. Click the trend type drop-down and select one of the following options:
      • Historical Trend - to trend data from the past to put data into perspective.
      • Projected Trend - to use past data to predict future data values.
        • In Days to project field, enter the number of days into the future to project the trend. The default value is 7 days and the valid input range is 1 - 3650 days.
      • Standard Trend - to use the data within the specified time span to create a trend line.
    3. Click the Algorithm drop-down and select one of the following algorithms from the list:
      • Exponential - to display a curved trend line for data values that rise or fall at increasingly higher rates.
      • Linear - to display in linear trend line. Data is linear if the data point pattern resembles a line. A linear trend line typically shows that something increases or decreases at a steady rate.
      • Logarithmic - to display a logarithmic trend line for a curved line that is most useful when the rate of change in the data increases or decreases quickly and then levels out.
      • Power - to display a curved trend line to compare measurements that increase at a specific rate.
Important: Algorithms Exponential and Power are available from the drop-down but currently not supported.
  8. PERCENTILE

    1. Enable Enable percentile to determine the percentile value at which x percent of the data lies below. This is a useful statistical mechanism to remove data spikes to assist telecom companies, Internet Service Providers, etc. with billing their customers and to provide for true quality data. If enabled, enter the percentile value in the Percentile field for SevOne Data Platform to use to compute data.
  9. WORK HOURS & MAINTENANCE WINDOWS
    1. Enable Enable maintenance windows to draw maintenance windows that affect the current resources.
      • Select the View global windows check box to show maintenance windows that that do not have any associated resources.
