- This release contains features from the 0.40 and 0.41 release of the Eclipse OpenJ9 project, as listed in the Version 0.40.0 and Version 0.41.0 OpenJ9 user documentation.

- zEnterprise Data Compression
- The zEnterprise Data Compression (zEDC) Express adapter and the Integrated Accelerator for zEDC solution for z15 or later, which was supported in the IBM SDK, Java Technology Edition, Version 11 but was not available in the first release of Version 17, is now supported. For more information, see zEnterprise Data Compression.
- Support is added for additional digest HASH algorithms for RSA OAEP in IBMJCECCA provider
- The IBMJCECCA provider's RSA wrapping and unwrapping with OAEP feature now supports 3 additional digest HASH algorithms - SHA224, SHA384 and SHA512. Note that OAEP with SHA512 padding requires an RSA key size of 2048.
- Methods to authenticate and change password by using APPLID added to Java Security SAF interface
- The Java for z/OS System Authorization Facility (SAF) interface's PlatformUser class has been updated to authenticate the user and change user password with Application Identifier (APPLID). For more information, see PlatformUser API.
- New operating system support
- The following operating systems are now supported:
