Web Start can be run from a web page or the command line. Web Start applications are stored in the Java™ Application Cache. Web Start can be used on AIX®, Linux® (IA 32-bit, PPC32, and PPC64), and Windows systems.
Procedure
You can start Web Start in a number of different ways.
-
Select a link on a Web page that refers to a .jnlp file.
If your browser does not have the correct association to run Web Start applications, select
the
install_dir/jre/bin/javaws command from the
Open/Save
window to start the Web Start application.
- At a shell or command prompt,
type:
javaws <URL>
Where
<URL> is
the location of a
.jnlp file.
- If you have used Java Web
Start to open the application in the past, use the Java Application Cache Viewer.
At a shell or command prompt,
type:
install_dir/jre/bin/javaws -viewer
All Java Web Start
applications are stored in the Java Application
Cache. An application is downloaded only if the latest version is
not in the cache.
