Overview of the Food Safety Modernization Act

Under section 204 of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) established more traceability requirements for foods on the Food Traceability List, to rapidly identify the supply chain path and to protect public health. These requirements apply to organizations that manufacture, process, pack, or hold foods that are included on the Food Traceability List (FTL). These organizations are required to keep records of key data elements that are associated with critical tracking events in the supply chain and share this data with their supply chain partners. Additionally, these organizations must promptly provide their data to the FDA upon request. For more information about the FSMA, see FSMA Final Rule: Requirements for Additional Traceability Records for Certain Foods.

FSMA compliance with Transparent Supply

With the FSMA compliance feature enabled, your organization can easily record the data that is required by the FSMA and share this data with your supply chain partners. Specifically, you can upload data about your products, locations, and critical tracking events with data entry forms, spreadsheets, or the Connector API. With the FSMA records feature, you can easily generate reports of your traceability data as electronic, sortable spreadsheets that you can submit to the FDA upon request. You also have access to a set of data quality work queues that help you identify and correct data quality issues so that you can work toward data compliance.
