IBM Rational Integration Tester, Rational Test Virtualization Server, and Rational Performance Test Server release notes for V10.0.2

Read about new features, system requirements, installation, known issues, and support for Rational® Integration Tester, Rational Test Virtualization Server, and Rational Performance Test Server V10.0.2.

Description

IBM® Rational Test Workbench delivers end-to-end functional, regression, load, and integration testing to address the quality challenges of highly complex and integrated applications. This offering includes the following installable components:
  • Rational Integration Tester, a scripting-free environment for developing tests for SOA messaging and business process integration projects. Tests can be built by recording existing system behaviors or from requirements, by entering the data to send and the data that is expected in return. You can also create virtual services to remove test dependencies and enable earlier testing. Virtual services can be deployed by Rational Test Virtualization Server to provide on-demand virtualized test environments that can support all phases of the test development lifecycle.
  • Rational Test Control Panel, a server-based web application that provides a central repository for virtualized services. With Rational Test Control Panel, you can use virtual services that are published by Rational Integration Tester to create, share, and deploy virtualized test environments in Rational Test Virtualization Server. It also contains technology-specific components that are used by Rational Integration Tester for recording SOA message conversations, HTTP(S) and JDBC traffic, and for monitoring middleware systems under test with minimal reconfiguration of client applications.

What’s new

The following sections list the new features, enhancements or other changes made in V10.0.2.

Rational Test Automation Server

For information about Rational Test Automation Server V10.0.2, see Release notes.

Rational Test Control Panel

The list of agents changed for a release was updated. See the Tools page of Rational Test Control Panel to see each tool and the version that it was last changed.

Mainframe

  • The IBM WebSphere® MQ exit for z/OS and the IBM CICS DPL exit now display version 10.0.2 when starting. These 10.0.2 exits function the same as the 10.0.0 exit, and there is no need to upgrade to the newer exits.
  • WebSphere MQ transports can now be configured to connect by using Client Channel Definition Tables (CCDTs). See Basic settings and MQ SSL settings.
  • Starting in V10.0.2, Rational Integration Tester ships with the required JAR files to communicate with WebSphere MQ. No Library Manager configuration for WebSphere MQ is necessary for new installations. For upgrades from existing installations where a WebSphere MQ provider was configured in Library Manager, the existing configuration will continue to be used. If no such provider was configured, the new default pre-installed provider is used. The configured provider can be changed in Library Manager if required.

Technologies

  • Support was added for Apache Kafka. Support includes the Kafka transport and recording and virtualization though the HTTP/TCP proxy. Rational Integration Tester can test, record, and virtualize messages sent over Kafka, including Kafka secured by SSL. See Testing with Apache Kafka.
  • Support was added for Software AG Universal Messaging. Support includes the Software AG Universal Messaging Broker transport, and the Queue, Channel and Data Group proxy recording. Rational Integration Tester can test, record, and virtualize messages sent over Software AG Universal Messaging, including Software AG Universal Messaging secured by SSL. See Testing Software AG Universal Messaging.
  • Synchronizing with Swagger, OpenAPI 3.0 and RAML was improved by adding a path template that you can insert directly into the operations stub filter configuration. Previously, after synchronization, the operation was configured with only the static portion of the path, for example, the path before the first parameter. This meant that the proxy routes too many requests to the stub and it was up to the stub to further filter the parameterized parts. See Changing the stub page for an operation.
  • You can now publish stubs created in Rational Integration Tester, which can then be deployed into Kubernetes and into Kubernetes with Istio. See Testing with Kubernetes and Testing with Istio.
  • You can use Rational Integration Tester to record the HTTP traffic on the Envoy Proxy by using the Experimental HTTP Tap Filter feature of the Envoy Proxy. See Testing with Envoy Proxy (Experimental).

Known problems

Known problems are documented in the download document for each product and in the form of individual technotes in the Support Knowledge Base:

Note: Starting in V9.5.0 a single fix list document and a single download document is used for all products.

The knowledge base is continually updated as problems are discovered and resolved. By searching the knowledge base, you can quickly find workarounds or solutions to problems.

Contacting IBM support

IBM support provides you with technical assistance.

For contact information and guidelines or reference materials that you will need when you require support, read the IBM Software Support Handbook. For personalized support, including notifications of significant upgrades, register at IBM Support.

For Rational software product news, events, and other information, visit the IBM Marketplace.

Before you contact IBM support, gather the background information that you will need to describe your problem. When describing a problem to an IBM support specialist, be as specific as possible and include all relevant background information so that the specialist can help you solve the problem efficiently. To save time, know the answers to these questions:
  • What software versions were you running when the problem occurred?
  • Do you have logs, traces, or messages that are related to the problem?
  • Can you reproduce the problem? If so, what steps do you take to reproduce it?
  • Is there a workaround for the problem? If so, be prepared to describe the workaround.
