Terminal emulator automation

Automate applications written to run in terminals or mainframes. IBM RPA can connect and automate zSeries applications over 3270 protocol, and System i5®, eServer i5®, iSeries, or AS/400 over 5250 protocol. It also includes VT emulation over Telnet and SSH protocols.

The terminal emulator connects to a terminal host, and reads and displays the host screen data, which can include characters, fields and attributes data, and keystrokes. You can access this screen in the IBM RPA Studio's recorder, or while you debug a terminal script.

• Starting the terminal recorder
  Learn how to start the terminal recorder in IBM RPA Studio. The recorder supports connections to 3270 host sessions with the IBM RPA internal provider, and to 3270 or 5250 host sessions with the HLLAPI standard and IBM® Personal Communications provider. It doesn't support connections to VT emulator over SSH or Telnet protocols.

• Connecting to the terminal emulator
  Learn how to connect to the terminal emulator by using the HLLAPI standard, the IBM® Personal Communications or the IBM RPA internal provider. You can also connect to VT emulator over Telnet or SSH protocols.

• Recording the terminal emulator
  Learn how to use the recorder to develop scripts for terminal emulator automation. You can record screen data of the terminal emulator based on the actions that you take on the screen, or inspect fields on it to get their properties.

• Running SSH commands on the terminal
  Learn how to run SSH commands on the terminal prompt. To run SSH commands, you must connect to a terminal over SSH protocol.
