You can perform the following tasks:
Your Rational® ClearQuest® administrator uses Rational ClearQuest Designer to create custom forms and manage the Rational ClearQuest database.
Change requests move through a pattern, or lifecycle, from submission through resolution. Each stage in this lifecycle is a state, and each movement from one state to another is a state transition.
Each state has specific actions associated with it. As you move a change request to another state, fields associated with that state become required, and certain business rules apply. For example, within the default Rational ClearQuest application, the Impacts Doc field is mandatory only when a defect is moved to the Resolved state.
Your Rational ClearQuest administrator can customize states and the actions associated with them. For example, in the default application, users are notified by e-mail when change requests are assigned to them.
By setting up rules for state transitions, you can verify that your change requests are being thoroughly completed and tracked.
You must use queries to navigate the Rational ClearQuest database. Before viewing or modifying records, you query the database for the records you are interested in. For example, you might want to see only defect records that are assigned to you, only the records associated with your project, or only records entered on or after a particular date.
Query results are displayed in grids. To locate relevant records quickly, you can specify the record fields to include and the order in which to display them. Queries are based on the filters that you select. If you run a query without any defined filters, all records in the database are listed.
After running a query, you can navigate through the results, viewing and modifying records using the Result set page. You can also generate a report from the query results.
Rational ClearQuest provides three charts to help you analyze your data: Distribution, Trend, and Aging.
Distribution charts measure how many records fall into defined categories or match the values you indicate. For example, use a distribution chart to see the current status of a group of records or to see who has been assigned the most or the fewest change requests. Another example is a chart that sorts records their priority.
Trend charts show how many records were changed into the selected states by day, week, or month. These charts show the rate at which new records are being submitted, resolved, or moved into other states.
Aging charts show how many records have been in the selected states and for how long.
Aging and Trend charts help you track the state transition history of a record. Records that do not have states are not included in these charts.
You can combine report formats created with Crystal Reports with queries from Rational ClearQuest to create reports on change request data.
Some features of Rational ClearQuest are not available if you do not have the required privileges. For example, you cannot edit SQL properties without SQL editing privileges. To change your privileges or for more information about them, contact your Rational ClearQuest administrator.
