Rational ClearQuest features

IBM Installation Manager

On Windows®, Linux® and UNIX Systems, IBM Installation Manager is used to install Rational ClearQuest. Installation Manager is a product that enables you to install, update, rollback, and remove product installations. Installation Manager offers a number of time-saving features and helps keep track of what you are about to install, as well as what you have already installed, and what is available for installation. It searches for updates, so that you know that you are installing the latest version of a package. Installation Manager also provides tools for managing licenses for the packages that it installs, and for updating and modifying packages. It can also uninstall full packages, or roll back packages to previous versions. For more information on Installation Manager, refer to the IBM Installation Manager Information Center at http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/install/v1m0r0/index.jsp.

CM API

CM API is a Java™ API for Rational products that provides a common object model for resources in Rational ClearQuest and Rational ClearCase repositories. The CM API is a unified collection of Java interfaces and classes that specify a public API through which programming clients can interact with the IBM Rational team products that provide change and configuration management services. These clients can be graphical or command-line user interfaces or custom scripts or programs that need such services.

CQ Logger

CQ Logger provides logging capability at the core level of Rational ClearQuest on all platforms. Errors and exceptions from all Rational ClearQuest clients, including CM API and CM Server, along with integration clients and hooks code are logged.

For details about features implemented in the Rational ClearQuest Web client, see the online help for Rational ClearQuest clients. The supported browsers for this client are Microsoft® Internet Explorer 6.0 or later and Mozilla Firefox 2.0 or later.

Rational ClearQuest Command Line Interface (CLI)

New commands are available to access Rational ClearQuest information from the command line. You can submit, edit, or find records; add, remove, or show attachments for a specific record; and create, rename, delete, or modify queries. The command run_script reads a list of ClearQuest CLI commands from a text file and then performs the commands. ClearQuest CLI can handle multibyte and unicode characters and will display locale specific messages based on the operating locale. The Version 7.1 CLI is only translated into Japanese and Chinese.

Feature level 7

Feature level 7 is the default when you create a schema repository with the Maintenance Tool. With Feature level 7 you can enable pessimistic record locking, use Full-Text Search and use FIPS 140-2 approved Crypto. For more information about feature levels, see the online help for Rational ClearQuest Administrator.

Support for feature levels 7, 6, and 5

Version 7.1 introduces feature level 7 and supports feature level 6 and 5. The feature level defines the set of features available for use with Rational ClearQuest.

Full-text Search

Full-text search can be enabled either in a feature level 7 database, or in a feature level 5 or feature level 6 database that is MultiSite enabled.

ResultSet Limitations

For ResultSets, you can configure the maximum number of rows returned using the method ResultSetIsLimited. This limits the server load and reduces the waiting time for large query sets. A portion of the resultset is returned quickly and users are provided with option to export when the limit is reached

Support for FIPS 140-2 compliant data encryption

Rational ClearQuest uses FIPS 140-2 certified encryption algorithms. FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standard) 140-2 is the U.S. government computer security standard used to accredit cryptographic modules. FIPS 140-2 includes a list of approved cryptographic algorithms and describes approved modes of operation. FIPS 140-2 compliant data encryption requires that you upgrade the schema repository and associated user databases to feature level 7. When the schema repository and user databases are at feature level 7, the databases are not accessible with a Rational ClearQuest client from version 7.0.1 or earlier.

Enhanced Import feature for the Rational ClearQuest Client and Rational ClearQuest Client for Eclipse

An enhanced version of the Import Tool has been added to the Rational ClearQuest Client and the Rational ClearQuest Client for Eclipse (Eclipse Plug-In). With the enhanced Import feature, you can import records into your Rational ClearQuest database.

The following features are included:
  • Based on Eclipse technology
  • Importing reference relationship for easier migration path
  • Additional Parent-child and self-reference capabilities
  • Load, Save and Clear buttons
  • Configurable behavior for importing reference list field values: appending or replacing values
  • Saving of Import setting
  • Cross-Platform Support expands the import functionality to Linux and UNIX systems platforms

Disable Remember Password feature

Rational ClearQuest Administrators can disable the Remember Password feature for Rational ClearQuest Client users by setting a master property on a schema repository. ClearQuest Clients that connect to databases associated with that schema repository will no longer be allowed to use the Remember Password feature. Previously saved passwords will also be removed. Feature Level 7 is required to guarantee that all connecting ClearQuest Clients support disabling Remember Password.

Support of Multiple LDAP Configurations

Version 7.1 introduces support for environments where multiple LDAP configurations can be used to authenticate.

Internet Protocol v6 (IPv6) Support

Support is available for environments using both IPv4 and IPv6.
