Planning
This information can help you plan for the virtualization of the IBM® Power Systems™ servers and for the components of the PowerVM® Editions hardware feature.
IBM System Planning Tool
The IBM System Planning Tool (SPT) is a browser-based application that helps you design system configurations; it is useful for designing logically partitioned systems. The SPT is integrated with the IBM Systems Workload Estimator (WLE), which enables you to plan a system based on existing performance data or based on new workloads. System plans generated by the SPT can be deployed on the system by using the Hardware Management Console (HMC). The SPT is available to assist the user in planning, design, and validation of the system and to provide a system validation report that reflects the system requirements of the user without exceeding system recommendations.- System Plans
This information describes the IBM System Planning Tool and how to use the IBM System Planning Tool to create system plans. - Planning for logical partitions
This information can help you plan to create logical partitions on your IBM Power Systems servers. It provides information about the hardware and software prerequisites, and other information that you require to create logical partitions on your server. - Planning for the Virtual I/O Server
This information can help you plan for the Virtual I/O Server (VIOS). - Planning for the Integrated Virtualization Manager
This information can help you plan for the Integrated Virtualization Manager (IVM), which is part of the PowerVM Standard Edition. IVM is only available on certain smaller IBM Power Systems servers and some IBM BladeCenter blades that are based on the POWER® architecture. - Preparing to configure shared memory
This information describes how to plan for the shared memory pool, the shared memory partitions, the paging space devices, and the Virtual I/O Server (VIOS) logical partitions (hereafter referred to as paging VIOS partitions). - Planning for and moving Live Partition Mobility on the HMC
This information can help you understand the prerequisites and plan for Live Partition Mobility, where you use the Hardware Management Console (HMC) to move a partition from one server to another. - Preparing the source and destination servers for Live Partition Mobility on the HMC
Verify that the source and destination servers are configured correctly so that you can successfully move the mobile partition from the source server to the destination server by using the Hardware Management Console (HMC). - Planning for and moving Live Partition Mobility on the Integrated Virtualization Manager
This information can help you understand the prerequisites and plan for Live Partition Mobility, where you use the Integrated Virtualization Manager (IVM) to move a partition from one server to another. - Preparing the source and destination servers for Live Partition Mobility on the IVM
Verify that the source and destination servers are configured correctly so that you can successfully move the mobile partition from the source server to the destination server by using the Integrated Virtualization Manager (IVM).
