Determining available processors on the destination server

You can determine the available processors on the destination server and allocate more processors, if necessary, by using the Hardware Management Console (HMC).

Before you begin

You must be a super administrator to perform this task.

About this task

To determine the available processors on the destination server using the HMC, complete the following steps:

For HMC Version 10.1.1020, or earlier

To determine the available processors on the destination server using the HMC, complete the following steps:

Procedure

  1. Determine how many processors the mobile partition requires:
    1. In the navigation pane, click Resources.
    2. Click All Partitions. Alternatively, click All Systems. In the work pane, click the server name that has the logical partition. Click View System Partitions. The All Partitions page is displayed.
    3. In the work pane, select the logical partition and click Actions > View Partition Properties.
    4. Click the Processor, Memory, I/O tab.
    5. View the Processor section and record the minimum, maximum, and available processor settings.
    6. Click OK.
  2. Determine how many processors are available on the destination server:
    1. In the navigation pane, click Resources.
    2. Click All Systems. The All Systems page is displayed.
    3. In the work pane, select the system and click Actions > View System Properties.

    4. Click the Processor, Memory, I/O tab.
    5. Record the value of the Available processors.
    6. Click OK.
  3. Compare the values from steps 1 and 2.
    • If the destination server has enough available processors to support the mobile partition, continue to Preparing the source and destination servers for partition mobility.
    • If the destination server does not have enough available processors to support the mobile partition, use the HMC, to dynamically remove the processors from the logical partition or you can remove processors from logical partitions on the destination server.
