Save a book as a template and set it as default

You can save a book as a template to reuse its arrangement and avoid starting a book from scratch. You can also make it your default template. Additionally, administrators can set a book to be a global default template to make it a default for other users.

When a book template is applied, only the static data (such as properties related to widget appearance, fonts, or styling) in the template is transferred to the new book. Dynamic data that is tied to a TM1 server (such as the content of a widget, properties that are related to synchronization, or TM1 rules and processes) is removed.

For example, if your book template has a Bar visualization, when you apply the template to a new book, a blank Bar visualization is transferred to the new book. You can then add data to the Bar visualization from any database, giving you the flexibility to add the data you need but in a structured format.

Saving a book as a template

To save your book as a template, follow these steps:
  1. Click Save icon to save your book and select Save as template.
  2. In the Save as template dialog box, give your book template a name.

  3. Select the destination folder where you want to save the template.
  4. If you want to set your book as your default template, select Set as my default template. Administrators can also select Set as global default template and make it a default template for other users.

Skip this step if you do not want to set the book as a default template; you can make it a default later.

  5. Click Save.

After you create your book template, it displays in your assets under Reports and Analysis on the Home page and in the destination folder in your side panel. Filter the assets to see only the book templates.

When you save a book as your default or global default template, the related tag displays next to the book name.

You can also see all your book templates under the Custom tab when you create a new book from a template.

In Planning Analytics Workspace 2.0.93, when you save a book as a template, any data format that you applied to an entire view or visualization also saves to the template. When you create a new book using the template, the retained data format automatically applies to the view or visualization when you populate the data. The data format saves to a template only if you applied the format to an entire view or visualization by clicking Format values in the application toolbar. The data format is retained even when you replace the current view in the new book with another view.

Setting or removing the default option from a book template

To set the default option on a book template or to remove it, follow these steps:
  1. Access the side panel by clicking Side panel icon or go to Reports and Analysis on the Home page.
  2. Select the destination folder in which you saved the book template.
  3. Click the Edit menu icon for your book template to see menu options. Book template menu
  4. Select the option that you want for your book template.

You can have only one default and one global default template.

Default tag

However, a book template can be both a user default and global default template at the same time. When a book template is both your default and global default, only the Default template tag displays next to the book name.

Note: The user default template always takes preference over the global default.

Editing a book template

Similar to editing a book, you can edit a book template.

  1. Open the book template from Reports and Analysis on the Home page or from the side panel.
  2. Edit the book template and click Save.
