Installing Sterling Order Management System Software

You can install Sterling Order Management System Software Professional Edition or Enterprise Edition.

Before you begin installing Sterling Order Management System Software, review the installation checklist.

Sterling Order Management System Software offers the following editions:
  • Sterling Order Management System Software Professional Edition: Sterling Order Management System Software Professional Edition is the current Sterling Order Management System Software base offering.
  • Sterling Order Management System Software Enterprise Edition: Sterling Order Management System Software Enterprise Edition is the premium version of Sterling Order Management System Software that is priced and scaled for the enterprise-grade clients. Unlike the earlier versions of Sterling Order Management System Software, in V10+ the complex configurations such as sharding, promising server, search index separation, and edge deployment models are not compatible with Docker containerization models. Therefore, these configurations are not supported as part of the initial 10.0 release. However, if you are considering the implementation of these features as part of 10.0 upgrade, contact IBM Support for a discussion with the core Offering Management team.
Typically, each implementation requires customization. Sterling Order Management System Software provides access to the backend database tables, transactions, and APIs that you can customize. You can also customize the applications running on top of the base layer. A customization project requires installing the product and working in three environments:
  • Individual development environment, a working environment in which developers create customizations
  • Staging environment, a testing environment that integrates all changes and that usually mirrors the production environment
  • Production environment, where final, tested changes are deployed
After all the components you need are installed in an installation directory, you build an EAR file and deploy this to your development environment. You create your customizations in the development environment. When development work is ready, you build an EAR file and deploy this to your staging environment. When testing is complete, you build an EAR file and deploy this to your production environment.
Whether you install your development, test, or production environment, you follow the same high-level process:
  • Verify stack requirements.
  • Install and configure a database, either Db2® or Oracle.
  • Install and configure one of the following application servers: IBM® WebSphere®,or Oracle WebLogic.
  • Install the base software and other components supported by the licensing agreement.
  • From the installation directory, build an EAR file. Then deploy the EAR file to the appropriate environment, whether development, staging, or production.

There are two separate installers or Launchpads for these two editions. The name of the installers reflect the corresponding edition names. However, license is the same for both editions. Also, note that sharding-related questions are not available for the Sterling Order Management System Software Professional Edition, but are available for the Sterling Order Management System Software Enterprise Edition.

Before you get started with the installation steps ensure to verify the stack requirements for which you need to generate the system requirements report by using the Software Product Compatibility Reports tool.
