Configuring Microsoft Azure as an event source

Microsoft Azure provides monitoring services for Azure resources. You can set up an integration with Netcool® Operations Insight® to receive alert information from Microsoft Azure.

Before you begin

The following event types are supported for this integration:
  • Azure Classic Metrics and Azure Metrics
  • Azure Activity Log Alerts
  • Azure Auto-shutdown notification
  • Azure Auto-scales notification
  • Azure Log Search Alerts:

About this task

  • Using a webhook URL, alerts generated by Microsoft Azure monitoring are sent to the event management service as events.
  • No expiry time is set for Azure Log Alerts in event management.

Procedure

  1. Click Administration > Integrations with other systems.
  2. Click New integration.
  3. Go to the Microsoft Azure tile and click Configure.
  4. Enter a name for the integration and click Copy Copy to add the generated webhook URL to the clipboard. Ensure you save the generated webhook to make it available later in the configuration process. For example, you can save it to a file.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Log in to your Microsoft Azure account at https://portal.azure.com/.
  7. Go to the Dashboard and select the resource you want event information from. Click the resource name.
  8. Go to MONITORING in the navigation menu and click Alerts.
  9. Click New alert rule.
  10. Set up the rule as follows:
    Remember: For Azure Log Search Alerts select Application Insight or Log Analytics Workspaces under the Resource section.
    1. Enter a name for the rule and add a description.
    2. Select the metric that you want this alert rule to monitor for the selected resource.
    3. Set a condition and enter a threshold value for the metric. When the threshold value for the set condition is reached, an alert is generated and sent as an event to event management.
    4. Select the time period to monitor the metric data.
    5. Optional: Set up email notification.
    6. Paste the webhook URL into the Webhook field. This is the generated URL provided by event management.
    7. Click OK.
