Deploying and activating Maximo Health

As a system administrator, you deploy and activate Maximo® Health in Maximo Application Suite by selecting the application version, connecting to the configured database and applying the Java™ database connectivity (JDBC) configurations.

Before you begin

  • Confirm that the database is configured and you have its information available, including the correct JDBC URL specified in the correct format. It is also very important to make sure you review and understand the section about Database encryption. It helps you choose the best strategy for database encryption and understand how to avoid losing the encryption keys after the database is encrypted for the first time.
  • Confirm that you have your customization archive properly configured if you use it for your Maximo Health deployment.
  • Make sure that you prepare to configure persistent storage if you need it. For more information, see Provisioning storage.

To record the information that you need during the deployment process, you can also use the Deployment planning worksheet.

About this task

Enabling Maximo Health in Maximo Application Suite is a two-step process. First, you deploy Maximo Health in Maximo Application Suite. This selection deploys the application controller, which includes the Maximo Health operator and other entity managers that are essential to the deployment process and are also used to control and maintain the application after deployment. This part of the process usually takes a few minutes to complete.

Then, when you activate the application, you configure Maximo Health for use in Maximo Application Suite. During this configuration process, you add your database settings. You can also specify other configuration settings, such as language preferences, customization archive, external file storage, server bundle options, and others.

After you configure and confirm the Maximo Health activation, the main deployment process starts. This part of the process takes longer to complete and involves building the Maximo Health and server bundle images based on your chosen settings, configuring the data in the database by running the Maximo Health installation scripts for a new installation or an upgrade from an existing database, and finally deploying the application in the configured server bundle. This process takes a couple of hours or more to finish. It depends on your infrastructure, database location, network,, the number of included languages, and whether you are installing for the first time or upgrading.
