Person groups in workflows
When you design a Change workflow, you can assign the steps in the workflow to either an individual user or a person group. The product provides a set of built-in, best practice person groups to use for your Changes.
Person groups are different from security groups. Security groups cannot be used for workflow assignments, but a member of a person group likely belongs to a security group that is authorized to perform operations that are typically associated with that person group.
The roles used for the workflow assignments to person groups are designed to send an assignment to every member of a person group, at the same time. After one member of the group completes the assignment, assignments to the other group members are retracted, and the group assignment is considered to be completed.
This product ships with a set of predefined person groups for Change Management. Some of these groups are used by default in the best practice workflow steps. If you want to use this workflow as shipped, add users in your data center to these groups. You can also modify the workflow to use other groups.
To review the built-in person groups for Change Management, go to the Person Groups application, type PMCHG in the Person Groups field, and press Enter. You can click the name of a person group to see details about that group.
For example, you can see that Change Administrators belong to the built-in PMCHGADMIN person group; Change Analysts to the PMCHGANA group; Change Advisory Board members to the PMCHGCAB group; and so on.
To modify these person groups, add users to these person groups, and define new person groups, go to the Person Groups application (
