Platform Configuration
You use the applications in the Platform Configuration module (within the System
Configuration module) to perform numerous tasks, such as managing system properties and domains.
Also, you can use the applications for tasks done once, such as the
initial configuration after an installation.
System Properties
You use the System Properties application to manage system properties and the values of the system properties that various components use. A system property is a key-value pair that is used at a system level.
Logging
You use the Logging application to create and to manage log files that contain informational, warning, or error messages about the system.
Domains
Administrators can use the Domains application to add or modify domains to fit with your business practices. Domains are used throughout the product. They validate entered field values, provide lookup lists from which users can select field values, and can copy data sets or values to fields.
Database Configuration
You use the Database Configuration application to create or change objects and attributes, and to customize the database. An object is a self-contained software entity that consists of both data and functions to manipulate data. Most applications are associated with one main object and other related objects.
Communication Templates
You use the Communication Templates application to create and manage communication templates. These templates can be used to standardize frequently used email communications (which are also known as notifications).
Actions
In the Actions application, you manage actions and action groups that are used with escalation, service level agreement, and workflow processes.
Roles
You use the Roles application to manage role records that can be used as part of a communication template, escalation, service level agreement (SLA), or workflow process. When you use a role a process, the process is routed to the correct individual based on information associated with the role record.
Escalations
You use the Escalations application to automatically monitor critical processes in your enterprise. You can either create an escalation or customize a predefined escalation to suit your business needs.
Workflow Designer
You use the Workflow Designer application to create, to view, to modify, and to delete workflow process records that reflect your business processes.
Workflow Administration
You use the Workflow Administration application to view and to manage active instances of workflow processes.
Cron Task Setup
You use the Cron Task Setup application to create cron tasks and cron task instances, and to remove cron tasks or cron task instances. You can also change cron task parameters and statuses, and adjust the schedule of a cron task.
E-mail Listeners
In the E-mail Listeners application, you can receive and process service request and other types of tickets using e-mail messages. You can create or update tickets. You can also indicate whether the status is changed or queried based on specified criteria.
Database Information
The Database Information application provides information and access for database objects and attributes. You can make limited changes to data structures, such as associating a domain with an attribute, making an attribute required, or changing the search type.
Web Services Library
You can use the Web Services Library application to create and deploy web services for all service types, object structure, enterprise, and standard services. By deploying web services, external applications can make SOAP-based calls to retrieve or update business object data. The application generates the XML schema and Web Services Description Language (WSDL) files for all of your web services.
Launch in Context
You use the Launch in Context application to create and modify launch entry records which open an external application in the same or a different browser session. You can open applications independently or as part of an application integration scenario.
Automation Scripts
With the Automation Scripts application, you can create scripts to automate tasks that are based on the events or attributes of a business object, or based on actions or custom conditions. You can create a script in any of several supported scripting languages, and run the script without having to recompile Java™ files or restart the server.
