Security

You use the applications in the Security module to implement and to manage security for users and groups.

Overview of security
Maximo® Asset Management uses a two-step security process that consists of authentication and authorization. Registered users must provide a valid user ID and password to authenticate. After login, a user is authorized to access features and applications based on membership of security groups.
Configuring user authentication
User authentication can be on Maximo® Asset Management or on the application server. If you plan to use light-weight directory protocol (LDAP) security to manage users on a directory server, authentication must be on the application server. You select which authentication service to use during installation but you can manually change the authentication service later.
Configuring security groups
You can configure many types of security groups to support different roles in your organization. You can configure standard security groups that include default start centers and applications, and you can configure Work Center security groups to manage authorization to the user interface components and data required for a role.
Registering users
User records contain user names, passwords, and security profiles that determine the applications, options, and data to which a user can access.
Implementing additional security
You can implement additional security measures to protect your organization, including login tracking, setting encryption properties, and safeguarding against intrusion and malicious attacks.
