Configuring license settings as a customer

MaaS360 portal administrators can configure overage settings, default licenses for bulk enrollment, self-enrollment, or self-activation methods, and license-related alerts for their customer accounts using the license settings in the MaaS360 Portal.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the MaaS360® Portal as a customer administrator.
  2. From the MaaS360 Portal Home page, select Setup > Settings > License Settings.
  3. Review and configure the following sections in the Basic settings as required:
    • Overage settings

Overage allows customers and partners in their hierarchy to consume over and above the purchased license quantity.

      • The following Overage settings are displayed if overage is enabled for a customer account at the parent partner level.
Overage settings enabled for a customer

Overage is allowed by default for all license parts that are purchased by a paid customer account. Customer administrator can configure overage at a granular level by selecting the check boxes next to the individual license suites to allow overage of licenses. The customer can exceed the purchased license quantity for the selected license suites.

      • If overage is disabled for a customer account at the parent partner level, the following message is displayed. The customer account cannot exceed the purchased license quantity.
Overage settings are disabled for a child partner
Note: The Overage setting for the existing devices will remain unaffected by the changes made to this section.
    • Auto-assign licenses for self-enrollments

For devices that are self-enrolled through the MaaS360 self-enrollment or bulk enrollment methods, licenses are applied to devices based on the default base license and add-on licenses that are selected. You must have at least one MDM base license applied to the device.

      Auto-assign licenses for self enrollments
      Note:
      • This setting is displayed for mixed-mode customers and MDM enrollment customer accounts only.
      • For bulk enrollments, use Apple DEP, Android Configuration (Device Admin), Samsung Knox Mobile Enrollment (Device Admin), Android Enterprise QR Code Provisioning, Android Enterprise Zero Touch Enrollment, Windows OOBE, or Windows 10 Bulk Provisioning to create bulk enrollment requests using bulk add. For more information about the MaaS360 bulk enrollment programs, see the Enrollment Programs section at Configuring directory and enrollment settings in the MaaS360 Portal.
      • The license services that are already opted for in the base licenses will not be available for selection in add-on licenses.
    • Auto-assign licenses for self-activations

For devices that are self-activated with the MaaS360 self-activation or bulk activation methods, the licenses are applied to devices based on the default base license and add-on licenses that are selected. You must have at least one MDM base license or SPS base license applied to the device.

      Auto-assign licenses for self activation
      Note:
      • This setting is displayed for mixed-mode customers and SPS activation customer accounts only.
      • The license services that are already opted for in the base licenses will not be available for selection in add-on licenses.
    • Alert settings

Alert settings notify administrators about events that are related to license management. When an alert is enabled, the administrator receives a notification email about a license-related event and the actions they can take to remedy the event.

The following notification settings are enabled by default when license management is activated for an account. By default, the primary administrator receives all of the notification emails except for notification emails for the license usage threshold and the license exhaustion alerts. You can modify these email addresses and also provide multiple email addresses to receive these alerts.

      License alert settings

The following alerts are available for license management:

      • Subscription is about to expire
        If this alert is enabled,
        • A notification email is sent to the primary administrator and other subscribed administrators that a license subscription is about to expire. This email is sent 30 days before the expiration date. This email contains the license part name, license part number, charge agreement number, and number of affected devices. The device details are not included in the email. Administrators can review the license subscriptions at Setup > License Overview and choose to purchase new subscriptions or renew the existing subscriptions before the subscription expires. If there are no devices affected by an expiring subscription, no notification emails are sent to administrators.
        • For trial customer accounts, a notification email is sent to the customer 15 days before the expiration of the trial subscription.
        • Customers who have opted to automatically renew their license subscription are not sent a notification email.
      • Subscription expiry

If this alert is enabled, a notification email is sent to the primary administrator and other subscribed administrators that a license subscription has expired. This email contains the license part name, license part number, charge agreement number, expiration date and time in UTC format, and number of affected devices. Administrators can review the affected devices at Setup > License Overviewand then select Export Assignments for the license part name that has expired. This notification email is a dynamic message that is triggered when MaaS360 encounters an expired license subscription that might impact devices in the customer account. If there are no devices affected by an expiring subscription, no notification emails are sent to administrators.

Expired licenses are not revoked from the device and continue to function on devices that are assigned these licenses. However, expired licenses are marked as expired on the device.

      • Subscription removal

If this alert is enabled, a notification email is sent to the primary administrator and other subscribed administrators that a license subscription was removed.

This issue occurs when a suspended license bundle is not renewed and the license subscription was automatically canceled after 60 days of suspension. A notification email is sent to administrators that the suspended license subscriptions have expired and the licenses were revoked from the assigned devices. This email contains the license part name, license part number, charge agreement number, and number of affected devices. For more information, see Viewing the change history for license settings.

      • Discovery of new subscriptions

If this alert is enabled, a notification email is sent to the primary administrator and other subscribed administrators that a new license subscription is available for the customer account. This notification email contains the license part name, license part number, charge agreement number, number of purchased license units that are available, and validity for these license units. Administrators can review new license subscriptions at Setup > License Overview. This notification email is a dynamic message that is triggered when MaaS360 encounters new license subscriptions that are available for a customer account.

      • License usage threshold

If this alert is enabled, a notification email is sent to subscribed administrators that a MaaS360 service license bundle (MaaS360 Part Name) has exceeded the configured threshold of use. The usage threshold value is configurable within the range of 50 - 95%. You can also set the frequency of the notification email.

For example, a customer has purchased the following MaaS360 base license parts: Essentials and Premier suites. The License usage threshold setting is enabled for the customer, and the threshold value is configured to 50%. If the Essentials suite is 50% utilized and the Premier suite is 25% utilized, then a License usage threshold mail is sent to the configured email address to notify that the usage of the Essentials suite has reached the threshold value.

      • License exhaustion

If this alert is enabled, a notification email is sent to subscribed administrators that a MaaS360 service license bundle (MaaS360 Part Name) was completely utilized.

For example, a customer has purchased the following MaaS360 base license parts: Premier and Management suites, and the License exhaustion setting is enabled for the customer. If the Premier suite is 100% utilized and the Essentials suite is 75% utilized, then a License exhaustion mail is sent to the configured email address to notify that all the licenses in the Premier suite are completely utilized.
