Enabling health check alerts for Mobile Enterprise Gateway (MEG)

Follow these steps to enable health check alerts from the IBM® MaaS360® Portal for the Cloud Extender® Mobile Enterprise Gateway (MEG) module.

Procedure

  1. From the IBM MaaS360 Portal Home page, select Setup > Cloud Extender Settings.
  2. Select Health Check Configuration > Enterprise VPN Gateway.
The Enterprise VPN Gateway Alerting list is displayed.
Cloud ExtenderMobile Enterprise Gateway (MEG) health check alerts
  3. From the list, enable the alerts that apply to your environment.
If you set an alert subscription to Critical Only, the Cloud Extender sends an email message or a text message to the administrator for all alerts that are marked as Critical.
The following table provides a description of each alert and the steps you take to remediate the alert:
Alert name Alert description Remediation steps
Relay Server not reachable The Cloud Extender triggers an alert when the MaaS360 relay server is not reachable by Mobile Enterprise Gateway (MEG).
This alert might be triggered due to the following issues:
    • Recent changes to firewall rules that block outbound communication from the Mobile Enterprise Gateway (MEG) to the relay server.
    • The proxy between the Mobile Enterprise Gateway (MEG) to the relay server is down.
    • A failure in the handshake between the Mobile Enterprise Gateway (MEG) and the relay server.
This alert is remediated when the Mobile Enterprise Gateway (MEG) reestablishes a connection with the assigned relay server.
DNS settings are invalid or corrupted The Cloud Extender triggers an alert when DNS settings configured for the Cloud Extender are invalid.
    • Make sure that the configured DNS setting is not set to 127.0.0.1 or is empty.
    • Make sure that the preferred DNS setting is able to resolve all the hosts configured for the Cloud Extender.
This alert is remediated when the preferred DNS setting is able to resolve all the hosts configured for Cloud Extender.
Maximum limit reached for Hosts not connected

The Mobile Enterprise Gateway (MEG) dynamically calculates the default maximum number of connections from Mobile Enterprise Gateway (MEG) to the relay server to access intranet corporate resources, and approximately 5% of the total device connections is considered a threshold.

The Cloud Extender triggers an alert when the number of device connections to the gateway has reached the threshold (5%) in the last thirty minutes.

This alert is remediated when the number of device connections decreases to below or is equal to the lower bound threshold (2%).
  4. Publish the Cloud Extender settings to activate the alerts.
