Overview of MDM entity services

MDM entity services provide the capability to retrieve information about an MDM entity.

MDM entity services are designed specifically for use with two of the key components of MDM Application Toolkit, the MDM Tree coach view and the MDM Diagram coach view.

The capability provided by the MDM entity services is required by these coach views to retrieve information from an MDM operational server and to display the content of that information. This capability replaces the need to use a configured REST service for the MDM Tree that was required in previous releases of MDM Application Toolkit.

You request an entity service by using the Obtain MDM Entity Service integration service. A service token, that is generated by MDM Application Toolkit, is returned. You pass the service token to the MDM Tree coach view or MDM Diagram coach view by using the service variable. The service token is also used with the other integration services designed for MDM entity services.

The Obtain MDM Entity Service integration service specifies the information that is necessary to connect to the MDM operational server and specifies the adaptor configuration. The adaptor configuration is a set of information that defines the format and content of the information that represents the entity to be returned. The MDMCFG_Adaptor business object is used to specify the adaptor configuration information.

When you obtain an entity service, resources are engaged for that service until the MDM entity service is deleted. To delete the MDM entity service, you use the Delete MDM Entity Service integration service.
