Protocol configuration for network switches
This topic explains how IBM® Flex System Manager organizes protocol configurations within a switch protocol configuration template.
Terminology
- Protocol configuration
- A protocol configuration defines a configuration for a switch or IBM switch module. The protocol configuration consists of login, network protocols, SNMPv1 agents, and port settings. Protocol configurations are defined as part of a configuration template. Configuration templates are specific to a particular type of switch module. You can define multiple protocol configurations within a configuration template to deploy across multiple switch modules of the same type in a chassis.
- Bay number
- The location of the chassis bay that contains the switch. The option to create protocol configurations associated with a bay number is only available when you specify a Template type of chassis.
Creating and modifying protocol configurations
The Protocol Configuration page lists the protocol configurations defined for one or more switch modules in the chassis configuration template. You can use this view to create, modify, and delete protocol configurations. You can also use the view to reset to factory defaults. Click Create to open the Protocol Configuration page and define a new configuration. To create a single configuration that applies to all switches of the same type on the chassis, select All for the bay number on the Login Configuration tab. To create individual protocol configurations for each switch module, specify a single bay, complete and save the configuration, and repeat the process to create protocol configurations for multiple bays. This allows you to configure multiple switches of the same type, using different protocol configurations, from a single template.
