Partnerships using IP Connectivity

Partnerships can be established over Ethernet links that use the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses associated with Ethernet ports. These IP partnerships can be connections through Ethernet switches, or direct connections between local and partner systems. Partnerships can be created using an IPv4 address, IPv6 address, or the domain name of the remote system.

Partnership over native IP brings with it changes to some fundamental assumptions in that no name server is in an Ethernet fabric to detect and discover replication ports. There are specific configuration settings such that the local and remote systems can discover each other's replication capable IP addresses. TCP/IP sessions can then be set up across those IP addresses to establish a partnership.
