Linked meter data

If an account has a linked interval meter, you can use meter data to calculate accruals for data gaps. Using meter data provides a more accurate estimate of accruals. The calculation is based on actual consumption that is recorded by the linked meter.

The option to use linked meter data for accruals is available only for electricity, natural gas, and water accounts. If you select the option to use meter data, the option is applied system wide. You cannot restrict the feature to specific locations or groups.

Historical gaps are filled in with accruals that are generated from meter recordings from the corresponding month.

Partial months or missing meter data

Table 1 describes the scenarios where either the meter is missing data or the account is missing data, or both.
Table 1. Scenarios
Scenario Account is missing Meter has data for Accrual calculation is based on
1 Partial month Whole month System uses actual consumption data from the meter to calculate pro-rata meter data for the missing period in the account, which it uses for accruals.
2 Whole or partial month Partial month System calculates pro-rata meter consumption, which it uses for accruals.
3 Whole month Whole month System uses actual consumption from the meter for accruals.
4 Whole or partial month No data No accruals
Note: When an account is not linked to a meter, the conventional accrual methodology, which uses historical consumption data, applies.
Table 2 presents example data for each of these scenarios.
Table 2. Scenario examples
Month Start period End period Days Actual account consumption Actual linked meter consumption Linked meter - number of days of data Accrued consumption Scenario
August 2023 01 August 2023 19 August 2023 19 895 950 31
(950/31 days) * (12 days missing) = 367.74
Scenario 1:

Account data is missing data for a partial month.

Meter has data for the full month.

20 August 2023 31 August 2023 12 0
September 2023 01 September 2023 19 September 2023 19 895 895 19
895 / 19 days * (11 days missing in Account) = 518.16
Scenario 2

Account data is missing data for a partial month.

Meter has data for a partial month.

20 September 2023 30 September 2023 11 0 0 0
October 2023 01 October 2023 31 October 2023 31 0 850 31
= 850 / 31 * 31= 850
Scenario 3

Account data is missing for the whole month.

Meter has data for the full month.

November 2023 01 November 2023 30 November 2023 30 0 800 30
= 800 / 30 * 30= 800
December 2023 01 December 2023 31 December 2023 31 0 750 25
= 750 / 25 days * (31 days missing)= 930
Scenario 4

Account data is missing for the whole month.

Meter has data for a partial month.
