DS8000 Assign function authorization

Functions become associated to a machine through the assignment of function authorization serial numbers. Usually, the assignment is automatically performed by SLM (Storage license management application) that uses manufacturing shipment information. However, in some situations, SLM is unable to perform the automatic assignment. If you acquired a function but do not see it in the machine summary, you need to use this option to assign a function authorization to your machine. See detailed instructions in the modal window of this option. The following information is required to assign a function authorization to your machine:

• Function authorization machine type
• Function authorization model number
• Function authorization serial number

This information is printed on the DS8000 series licensed function authorization document. This document is provided to you by IBM or an authorized IBM Business Partner. You need to perform this action only per function authorization serial number. The assignment information is permanently stored in SLM database. A function authorization can be assigned to only one machine and once assigned, it cannot be reassigned or transferred to a different machine.
