Linking Rational Team Concert source control files to CLM artifacts

To provide full traceability between Collaborative Lifecycle Management artifacts, you can link between Rational Team Concert source control files and other CLM artifacts, such as requirements in Rational® DOORS® Next Generation, test scripts in Rational Quality Manager, or other CLM artifacts.

Before you begin

The selected global configuration context must contain configurations with source and target artifacts.

You must configure the Rational Team Concert Jazz® Team Servers that host the repositories to communicate with each other. You must also link the Rational Team Concert project areas. For more information, see Enabling Open Services for Lifecycle Collaboration.

Note: If you use a multiple Jazz Team Server (JTS) topology, you must assign a functional user to those applications that do not share the same JTS with the current Rational Team Concert server. You can use the pre-defined ccm_user or other user that has the privilege to query and read the linked files on your server.
Note: When you link to a project area on a server that is friend, add the association type Provides - Change Sets to link to files in another project area. To link to files within the same project area, you must also create an association to the project area.

About this task

To create links from files under Rational Team Concert source control to other CLM artifacts, you need to select a global configuration context for the operation because many artifacts in CLM have multiple versions and are used for different configurations. For example, a requirement is changed for different releases or variants of the product. To find the corresponding requirement from a source file, specify the configuration (global configuration context) where the source file and the requirement are used.

Procedure

  1. To create link between a file under Rational Team Concert source control and an artifact in a global configuration context:
    1. In the Package Explorer view, select a file; right-click, then click Team > Add Related Artifacts….
Note: In the Rational Team Concert® Client for Microsoft Visual Studio IDE, in the Sandbox Explorer or Solution Explorer window, select a file; right-click, then click Add Related Artifacts…. In the Rational Team Concert Shell, in the Windows Explorer window, select a file; right-click, then click Rational Team Concert > Add Related Artifacts….
    2. In the Select Relationship window, select the global configuration context and select from a list of supported relationships. Click OK.
    3. In the Artifact Link window, select the target artifacts and click OK. After you create a link, check in the file.
  2. Optional: To remove a link between a file under Rational Team Concert source control and an artifact in a global configuration context:
    1. In the Package Explorer view, select a file; right-click, then click Team > Remove Related Artifacts…
Note: In the Rational Team Concert Client for Microsoft Visual Studio IDE, in the Sandbox Explorer or Solution Explorer window, select a file; right-click, then click Remove Related Artifacts…. In the Rational Team Concert Shell, in the Windows Explorer window, select a file; right-click, then click Rational Team Concert > Remove Related Artifacts….
    2. In the Remove Related Artifacts window, select the global configuration context and then select the file artifact from the list.
Note: If the related artifact does not exist in the specified global configuration context, an unresolved link error is displayed.
    3. Click Remove.
  3. Optional: To view links between a file under Rational Team Concert source control and related artifacts in a global configuration context:
    1. In the Package Explorer view, select a file; right-click, then click Team > Open Related Artifacts.
Note: In the Rational Team Concert Client for Microsoft Visual Studio IDE, in the Sandbox Explorer or Solution Explorer window, select a file; right-click, then click Open Related Artifacts…. In the Rational Team Concert Shell, in the Windows Explorer window, select a file; right-click, then click Rational Team Concert > Open Related Artifacts….
    2. In the Open Related Artifacts window, select the global configuration context.
    3. Select the artifact and click Open.
The details of the related artifact are displayed in a web browser view.
    4. To view other links that are associated with the target file, including incoming links from the original artifact, click the Links tab of the target file.
Note: Different types of artifacts can display different views and each application can have different ways to find related links.
