Upgrading to a new release of DOORS from an earlier release of version 9
When you upgrade to a new version of the IBM Engineering Requirements Management DOORS (DOORS ) database server from an earlier release of version 9, you install the new components and then copy the data directory from the earlier installation to the new installation.
Before you begin
- Back up your database according to the instructions in the Data backups topic. When you upgrade to a new version of the client or database server, the earlier version is removed from your computer.
- If you customized the menus in the existing installation, back up the addins.idx file and any custom scripts that you created.
About this task
- If you are upgrading the DOORS client, you must uninstall the previous client before you install the new client.
- You can upgrade an existing DOORS database server by running the new server installer. By default, the product is installed into a new directory that includes the version number, such as <install_dir>\DOORS\9.6. You cannot install a new version into the same directory as your previous installation. The database server application files are removed from the previous installation directory. The upgrade does not remove an existing data directory.
- Client installations that are an earlier release of version 9 can be used to connect to the
latest server version.
- Later versions of the client can connect to a database server for an earlier release of version 9.
- Earlier release 9 versions of the client can connect to a later version of the database server.
Important: If you are running the client and database server on the same computer, you must upgrade them to the same version. - If you are running an earlier version 9 product and have a valid maintenance agreement, you do not need a new license for a later version 9 release.
