The IBM® DS8000 is a series of high-performance, high-capacity storage systems that support continuous operations.
The latest and most advanced storage system in the DS8000 series is the DS8870. The storage system supports IBM POWER7+™ processor technology ensures higher performance.
The DS8000 series supports point-in-time copy functions. The functions include FlashCopy®, Metro Mirror, Global Copy, Global Mirror, and Metro/Global Mirror. Easy Tier® and I/O Priority Manager functions are also supported.
The storage system consists of a storage unit and one or two Hardware Management Consoles (HMC). A two HMC configuration is best. Through the user interfaces, you can logically partition storage and use the built-in Copy Services functions. For high-availability, the hardware components are redundant.
Tivoli® software initiates key management tasks by providing, protecting, storing, and maintaining encryption keys. Encryption keys are used for the encryption and decryption of written and read data that is stored on encryption-enabled disks. The software operates on various operating systems.
