Creating communication diagrams

In UML models, an interaction is a behavior that represents the communication between one or more participants. A communication diagram is a type of UML interaction diagram that illustrates the flow of messages between the objects in an interaction. You can add and modify lifelines, message pathways, and messages in communication diagrams.
  • Creating sequence diagrams or communication diagrams from existing interactions
    When you are modeling the interactions between objects and if the model includes a sequence diagram, you can quickly create the corresponding communication diagram. Or, if the model includes a communication diagram, you can quickly create the corresponding sequence diagram.
  • Populating communication diagrams
    You can create and populate communication diagrams with elements to understand the interactions between the objects in the context of a classifier, such as collaborations or classes. You can add lifelines that represent the objects, such as collaboration roles, and message pathways and messages to represent the flow of information between the objects in the interaction.
