Installing IBM® UrbanCode Release involves installing the server, applying licenses, and
connecting to a supported database.
You can install IBM UrbanCode Release on the single server within your environment or install
it on multiple servers which are connected through a load balancer.
This topology provides for more capacity and failover protection.
Installation roadmap
The installation roadmap list the high-level steps for
installing your product.
System requirements
The IBM UrbanCode Release server
requires a 64-bit operating system and JRE. If you plan to install
the server in a production environment, a supporting database is required.
If you do not plan to install the server in a production environment,
you can use the Apache Derby database, which is bundled with the product.
Installing the database
In production environments, IBM UrbanCode Release can be used with DB2®, Oracle, MySQL, or Microsoft SQL Server databases. By default, IBM UrbanCode Release uses the Apache Derby database. The bundled Derby database
is for evaluation purposes.
Installing the server
Installing the server involves adding IBM UrbanCode Release on a supported computer, and configuring connections to
databases, an application server, and a license server.
Stopping the server
You stop the server by running a batch file or by using an application shortcut.
Installing plug-ins
Plug-in provide functions for integration with other software
products and tools. Plug-ins can be installed at any time. You do
not need to restart the server after you install a plug-in.
Configuring servers for high availability
You can set up multiple servers for high-availability
configurations. In such configurations, multiple servers either operate
at the same time to provide more capacity or operate in sequence to
provide failover protection.
Configuring the server to send notifications
You can set up a mail server for sending notifications.
To send email, you must define a Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP)
server.
Managing licenses
Licensing is done in two steps: first, the license server
is identified during installation; second, users are assigned Authorized
User licenses after IBM UrbanCode Release is
running.
Uninstalling IBM UrbanCode Release
You can use the Uninstall option
in IBM Installation Manager to uninstall IBM UrbanCode Release . During the uninstall process, a backup of user configuration
files will be created. At the start of the process, the location and
name of the backup is displayed.
