Updating the client to a new release

Use these instructions to update the client to a new release. If you are updating the client by using IBM® Installation Manager, and you need to update Installation Manager, see the instructions in Updating Installation Manager by using wizard mode. If you need to migrate a workspace to the new version of the client, see the instructions in Migrating workspaces to a new version.

Before you begin

During the update process, the product prompts you to restart the client. In some circumstances, you might be prompted to migrate plug-ins. You can safely cancel the wizard without migrating plug-ins and restart the wizard later. To add or update plug-ins at a later date after canceling the migration wizard, click Help > Install New Software or Help > Check for Updates. The migration wizard can start for any of the following reasons.
  • You have more than one version of the client installed on your workstation. Some product plug-ins are installed into a shared location. When Eclipse detects that the shared folder contains a more recent version of a plug-in, it gives you the opportunity to install the latest version.
  • You started the client with a workspace that was created by a different product version, and the workspace includes features or artifacts that require a different version of a plug-in or a plug-in that is no longer installed. The plug-ins that need to be migrated can include those from IBM Developer for z/OS® or those from a different product that is installed into Eclipse with Developer for z/OS.
