DB2 Connect™ provides connectivity to mainframe and midrange databases
from Linux, UNIX, and Windows operating
systems. You can connect to DB2® databases
on the z/OS®, IBM® i, VSE, and VM operating systems and on IBM Power Systems™ hardware.
You
can also connect to databases that you did not create by using IBM products if they are Distributed Relational Database Architecture™ (DRDA®)
compliant.
DB2 Connect is
the industry-leading solution integrating System z®, System i® and other enterprise data with client/server, web, mobile,
and service-oriented architecture applications. DB2 Connect delivers significant feature
enhancements to improve programmer productivity, provide a more robust
infrastructure, and enable the deployment of DB2 technology. DB2 Connect has several product offerings:
- DB2 Connect Enterprise
Edition
- DB2 Connect Application
Server Edition
- DB2 Connect Unlimited
Edition for System z
- DB2 Connect Unlimited
Edition for System i
- IBM DB2 Connect Application Server Advanced

- IBM DB2 Connect Unlimited Advanced Edition

For detailed information about DB2 Connect product offerings, see:

It
is strongly recommended that you use DB2 Connect client, notably the IBM data server
drivers and clients, instead of the DB2 Connect server. IBM data server drivers and clients
provide the same connection and application development functionality
as the DB2 Connect server.
However, you can reduce complexity, improve performance, and deploy
application solutions with smaller footprints for your business users. DB2 Connect license files
are required. For more information about DB2 Connect client, refer to Client and server connection options.
