Data governance

Data governance refers to the process of managing the quality of data within an organization in order to ensure that, at all times during its life-cycle, data is accurate, available, consistent, secure, and usable.

Business analysts and data scientists search for information across the enterprise to gain insight and understanding of that information, supporting business needs. With the most up-to-date results, they are able to answer the following questions:
  • Where is the data and can we find it?
  • What is the meaning of the data?
  • What are the requirements for its handling or usage?
  • What shape is it in? Can we use it?
  • Where has the data been?
  • What other systems or users are accessing or using the data?
  • Can we trust the data?
  • Who is its owner?
