Installing Content Collector Db2 Text Search (Db2TS) Services Support

With Content Collector 4.0.1 fix pack 13 (4.0.1.13), if you use IBM Content Manager as your repository, install Content Collector Db2 Text Search Services Support, that is provided along with Content Collector.

Before you begin

IBM Content Collector Db2 Text Search Services Support is document constructor plug-in for custom pre-processing of all documents archived by using IBM Content Collector other than file system documents.
  • Check the Prerequisites for installing Content Collector.
  • Ensure that the Db2 version installed is 11.1.x or later with CM 8.6 or later.
  • If you upgrade Db2 after you installed IBM Content Collector Db2TS Services Support, you must reinstall IBM Content Collector Db2TS Services Support.
  • Db2TS Services Support can be installed on Windows, UNIX machines, Linux, and Linux on System z.
  • You can install IBM Content Collector Db2TS Services Support in GUI mode, console mode, or silent mode.
  • Db2TS Services Support must be installed on IBM Db2TS services instance on the IBM Content Manager repository that is used by IBM Content Collector.

About this task

When you install IBM Content Collector Db2 Text Search Services Support, you can select the following IBM Content Collector source system documents to pre-process:
  • Email documents
  • File System documents
  • Microsoft SharePoint documents
The source that you select when you install Db2 Text Search Services Support should be the same as the source that you select for document archival. File system documents do not have to be pre-processed by Db2TS Services Support before they are sent to the IBM Db2 Text Search Services servers for indexing. Hence ICC has used the default constructor of CM8 for File System document processing. However, IBM Content Collector will continue to update the IDXRC error code even for File System documents.

The Db2TS Services Support configuration options that are required for indexing items using IBM Db2 Text Search Services are stored in the configuration store and can be defined and changed using the IBM Content Collector Configuration Manager. In this case, the constructors.xml file contains the link to the configuration store where the configuration is stored.

Besides, the configuration data can be also stored entirely in the constructors.xml configuration file which must be maintained manually.

In case the Db2TS Services Support was installed selecting certain document sources and now requires additional document sources installation, then you do not have to uninstall the earlier text search support installation. While the installation program is re-run, the component is automatically installed in the previous installation location. If the files are required to be overwritten, permit this action when prompted.

Restart the Db2TS service after installation.
Note: In case the Db2TS service fails to start successfully, reboot the system to start the service.
Configuration scenarios

When you install IBM Content Collector Db2TS Services Support, you can either store the Db2TS Services Support configuration data centrally in the IBM Content Collector configuration store or locally in the constructors.xml file.

The default constructors.xml file that is installed by the Db2TS Services Support contains only the name of the document pre-processor (constructor), path information to the configuration store where the Db2TS Services Support configuration data is stored and the configuration key for the document processing.

The default configuration dependency on the Content Collector configuration store can be overridden by replacing it with a fully formed sample constructors.xml file that is located in the samples subdirectory of the Db2TS Services Support installation directory. Modify the sample constructors.xml file to fit your needs.

To continue working with constructors.xml file from earlier installations, replace the default constructors.xml file with the backup copy that is created during installation (Db2TextSearchInstallDir\config\constructors.xml.ICC.backup).
