Driver analysis

A driver analysis visualization shows you the key drivers or predictors for a target. The positions of the predictors or key drivers on the scale depend on their predictive strengths. The predictors or key drivers of weak predictive strength are on the left side of the scale, while those of strong predictive strength are on the right side of the scale.

IBM® Cognos Analytics uses sophisticated algorithms to deliver highly interpretable insights that are based on complex modeling. You don't have to know which statistical tests to run on your data. Cognos Analytics picks the right tests for the data.

For more information, see Statistical tests.

Key drivers for both continuous and categorical targets are available in the driver analysis visualization in dashboards and explorations.

Note:
  • To improve the performance of driver analysis, the analysis is based on a representative sample of data, if the data is big.
  • Filters are not supported for driver analysis visualizations.

The following image shows an example of a driver analysis visualization.

This example of the driver analysis visualization shows the predictive strengths of key drivers for Total Claim Amount.

To re-create this driver analysis visualization, perform the following steps:
  1. From a dashboard, click the Visualizations icon and in the System tab of the Visualizations pane, select Driver analysis.
  2. Click the Select a source button in the Data pane, and in the Select a source window go to Samples/By industry/Insurance/Data. Select the Customer analysis data module and click Add.
  3. Drag the Total Claim Amount data sets onto the Target fields.
