Event streams deployment

The IBM Cloud Pak for Integration Event Streams capability is provided through the deployment of an instance of IBM Event Streams.

You can deploy an instance of Event Streams as part of Cloud Pak for Integration by using the Platform Navigator as described later in this section.

You can also deploy an instance of Event Streams by using the Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform web console or CLI, as described in the Event Streams documentation.

Before you begin

You must meet the following dependencies before you begin.

  • Ensure you have set up your environment to meet the prerequisites for deploying Event Streams.

  • Ensure you plan for deploying an instance of Event Streams, such as preparing for persistent storage, considering security options, and planning for resilience.

  • Event Streams uses the default restricted Security Context Constraint (SCC) that comes with the OpenShift Container Platform. If you use a custom SCC, you might need to apply the SCC provided by Event Streams.

  • Ensure you have the Event Streams operator installed.

  • If you are using the IBM Entitled Registry, a pull secret must exist in the namespace containing an entitlement key. See Applying your entitlement key.

Deployment procedure using the Platform Navigator

Take the following steps to deploy the Event Streams capability. An Integration Specialist can carry out these tasks.

  1. Log in to the IBM Cloud Pak for Integration Platform Navigator as a Cluster Administrator. Use the authentication method and credentials set by your administrator.

  2. Click the Runtime and instances tab and click Create instance.

  3. Click the Event Streams Kafka cluster tile and click Next.

  4. Select one of the sample configurations and click Next.

For more information about the samples and their resource requirements, see the Event Streams documentation.

  5. Enter a name for the instance, select a namespace to deploy into, accept the license, and set whether you intend to use this instance for testing purposes or in a production environment.

  6. You can further customize the configuration settings for components such as Kafka, ZooKeeper, and Schema Registry by using the Basic view. You can also click the Code tab to access the YAML file and edit any of the settings for your Event Streams instance.

  7. Click Create to install an instance of Event Streams.

  8. After the installation completes, check the status of your release and verify that your Event Streams instance deployed successfully.
