Tracking and reporting use against license terms

You are required to keep a record of the size of deployments to report to IBM as requested. You can use the License Service to measure your IBM Cloud Pak for Data use against your license terms.

When you installed this instance of Cloud Pak for Data, you ran the cpd-cli manage apply-entitlement command to provide information about the license or licenses that you purchased.

You can use the License Service to generate an audit snapshot of your use. For more information, see Retrieving an audit snapshot in the License Service APIs:

It is recommended that you generate a monthly snapshot. For best practices, see Audit snapshot in the IBM Cloud Pak foundational services documentation:

You can also automatically send your data IBM Software Central, which enables you to view license and entitlements across your hybrid cloud deployments in one place. IBM Software Central helps you:

  • Remain compliant with your license agreements.
  • Get insight into your use so that you can more accurately predict future software needs and spending.

For more information, see Collecting telemetry data from IBM Cloud Pak for Data.

About this task

If you modify the services that are running on an instance of Cloud Pak for Data, you might need to update the information that the License Service uses to track your use against your license terms.

Procedure

  1. If add new services to your Cloud Pak for Data deployment, you might need to re-run the apply-entitlement if the service is not covered by an existing license.
Complete the appropriate task for your environment:
  2. If you remove services from your Cloud Pak for Data deployment, you might need to run the remove-entitlement command if you no longer use any of the services covered by a specific license. For more information, see the remove-entitlement command reference.
Important: Run this command only if you removed all of the services covered by the license.
