Licenses and entitlements

Your IBM® Cloud Pak for Data license determines the components and services that you are entitled to use.

License information

You can purchase several different Cloud Pak for Data licenses:

  • Cloud Pak for Data Standard Edition
  • Cloud Pak for Data Enterprise Edition
  • Cloud Pak for Data cartridges

What's included with your Cloud Pak for Data license?

Your purchase of Cloud Pak for Data Standard Edition or Cloud Pak for Data Enterprise Edition, includes entitlements to the Cloud Pak for Data platform software and several prerequisites that you need to be able to install Cloud Pak for Data.

The Enterprise Edition license includes a 60-day trial and is optionally available in a Non-Production version, which is available at a lower cost.

Software Details
IBM Cloud Pak for Data platform software For a list of services that are included with Cloud Pak for Data, see the IBM Cloud Pak for Data License Information topic on the IBM Support site.

The following components of the platform are non-chargeable components:

  • Cloud Pak for Data control plane
  • Db2® Data Management Console
  • Common database management UI
IBM Cloud Pak® foundational services IBM Cloud Pak foundational services is a non-chargeable component
Red Hat® OpenShift® Container Platform Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform entitlement applies only to self-managed OpenShift. If you plan to use managed OpenShift, you must purchase a subscription through your provider.

Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform entitlement does not apply to trial licenses.

Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform also includes entitlement to Red Hat Enterprise Linux®.

Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundation Essentials storage

Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundation Essentials entitlement applies only to self-managed OpenShift.

You are entitled to use Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundation Essentials with the following limitations:

  • You can use up to 6 TB of Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundation Essentials storage.
  • You can run Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundation Essentials on up to 48 VPCs.
  • You can use Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundation Essentials for up to 12 months.

If you exceed these terms, a separate license is required.

Restriction: Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundation Essentials is not included in the 60-day trial license.
IBM Spectrum® Fusion storage

IBM Spectrum Fusion entitlement applies only to self-managed OpenShift.

You are entitled to use IBM Spectrum Fusion with the following limitations:

  • You can use up to 6 TB of IBM Spectrum Fusion storage.
  • You can use IBM Spectrum Fusion for up to 12 months.

If you exceed these terms, a separate license is required.

Restriction: IBM Spectrum Fusion is not included in the 60-day trial license.

Your purchase of a Cloud Pak for Data cartridge includes entitlements to the Cloud Pak for Data platform software and several prerequisites that you need to be able to install Cloud Pak for Data.

All cartridges contain at least one Cloud Pak for Data service (containerized software that is installed with and works with Cloud Pak for Data).

Some cartridges also include entitlements to on-premises, stand-alone software that you can use as you migrate to Cloud Pak for Data. For information about the specific software included your cartridge, see IBM Cloud Pak for Data License Information.

Note: The Cloud Pak for Data documentation includes information on how to install the containerized software (services) that you are entitled to. For information on installing the stand-alone software, refer to the documentation for the version of the stand-alone software that you are running.

Obtaining your IBM entitlement API key

You must have your IBM entitlement API key to access images in the IBM Entitled Registry.

After you purchase Cloud Pak for Data, an entitlement API key for the software is associated with your My IBM account. You need this key to complete the Cloud Pak for Data installation.

To obtain the IBM entitlement API key that is associated with your My IBM account:
  1. Log in to Container software library on My IBM with the IBM ID and password that are associated with the entitled software.
  2. On the Get entitlement key tab, select Copy key to copy the entitlement key to the clipboard.
  3. Save the API key in a text file.

Obtaining Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform

Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform is a prerequisite for Cloud Pak for Data. You can use your Cloud Pak for Data entitlement to install self-managed OpenShift on the infrastructure of your choice.

You can download Red Hat OpenShift from the Red Hat Customer Portal.

When you purchase an IBM product that includes entitlement to Red Hat software, the Red Hat is accessible through your Red Hat account.

Obtaining the IBM Cloud Pak foundational services

IBM Cloud Pak foundational services is a prerequisite for Cloud Pak for Data. Installing IBM Cloud Pak for Data includes information on how to access or mirror the IBM Cloud Pak foundational services images.

By default, the following foundational services are automatically installed when you install Cloud Pak for Data:
  • IBM Certificate manager
  • Identity and Access Management Service (IAM Service)
  • IBM Cloud Pak Administration Hub

The License Service is automatically installed when you run the cpd-cli manage apply-entitlement command. For details, see Monitoring and reporting use against license terms.

Obtaining Cloud Pak for Data and Cloud Pak for Data services

Most of the images for the Cloud Pak for Data platform and services are available in the IBM Entitled Registry. Installing IBM Cloud Pak for Data includes information on how to access or mirror the images for the software that you want to install.

Execution Engine for Hadoop
The software that is installed on your Cloud Pak for Data cluster is available in the IBM Entitled Registry.
The software that is installed on you Apache Hadoop cluster is available in IBM Passport Advantage®:
  • M06D7EN: Cloud Pak for Data Enterprise Edition - Execution Engine for Hadoop
  • M06D4EN: Cloud Pak for Data Standard Edition - Execution Engine for Hadoop

When you purchase an IBM product that includes entitlement to Red Hat software, the Red Hat is accessible through your Red Hat account.

IBM Spectrum Fusion IBM Spectrum Fusion images are available in the IBM Entitled Registry.

The IBM Spectrum Fusion Readme (M05RHEN) on IBM Passport Advantage includes information on how to access the software images.

Reporting your use

You are required to keep a record of the size of deployments to report to IBM as requested. If you are using Container Licensing, you can use the License Service to measure Cloud Pak for Data usage. For details, see Monitoring and reporting use against license terms.
