Process Server

Use this page to configure this server or cluster as a Process Server, able to host process applications and their associated services.

A server or cluster configured as a Process Server can be used for the deployment of standards-based process applications and business integration applications in a service-oriented architecture (SOA).

To view this page in the administrative console, do the following:
Tip: If the Process Server link is not displayed in the Business Integration section, enable it by performing the steps described in technote 1590036 .

The Process Server component requires a service integration bus to provide messaging services. You need to select a server or cluster to provide these services.

You can select this server or cluster (sometimes referred to as a Local target configuration) or another server or cluster (sometimes referred to as a Remote target configuration) to provide the messaging services.

You create the database configuration for the Process Server by importing a database design document.

Enable Process Server

Select this check box to enable the Process Server configuration parameters on this page.

By default, this check box is cleared.

If you are using a stand-alone server profile, or have previously configured Process Server support, the Enable Process Server check box is selected and the panel is read-only (configuration parameters can be viewed, but can not be changed).

When you select Enable Process Server, each section of the panel becomes active so you can specify configuration settings and perform configuration operations. After you create a Process Server, the information specified is applied to the server and is not displayed in the console.

Note: You can use the option on this page to create a Process Server on a cluster. To update the configuration details for an existing Process Server you must update the 100Custom.xml file. For more information, see the "Changing IBM Process Server properties" topic in the Business Process Manager Information Center.

Environment name

Enter an environment name of the Process Server.

An environment name is the name by which this server or cluster will be known to a Process Center user.

Environment type

From the pull-down list, select the Environment type for the Process Server you are configuring.

The Environment type refers to how the Process Server is used. For example, in what capacity will the Process Server be used - production, stage or test . Load testing might be done on a test server, while a stage environment type might be used as a temporary location to host changes before putting those changes into production. You might specify Stage as the Environment type if the Process Server you are configuring, will be accessed and used to review content and new functionality.

There are three types of environments available for selection:

Production
Select Production if the server will serve in a production capacity.
Stage
Select Stage if the server will serve as a staging platform to be used as a preproduction server.
Test
Select Test if the server you are configuring will be used as a testing environment.

Use server offline

Indicate whether the server you are configuring is an offline server.

An offline server is a Process Server that is not connected to the Process Center.

Offline servers can still be used when deploying snapshots of process applications. However the method for deploying process applications to an offline process server differs from the method for deploying process applications to an online process server.

Protocol

Select either http:// or https:// as the connection protocol to the Process Center.

Host name or virtual host in a load-balanced environment

Type the host or virtual host that this Process Server needs to communicate with Process Center. Use a fully qualified host name. In an environment with a load balancer or proxy server between the Process Server and the Process Center services, make sure that what you designate here matches the URL for accessing the Process Center.

Port

Type the port number of the Process Center. In an environment with a load balancer or proxy server between the Process Server and the Process Center, make sure that what you designate here matches the URL for accessing the Process Center.

Import database configuration

Use this portion of the panel to import a database design document that defines the database metadata definitions for the Process Server and its Performance Data Warehouse.

Note: Process Server database design file might contain information about other components (not related to Process Server). Only information for the Process Server and Performance Data Warehouse components will be used. No other database configuration will be updated.

Database design file name

Select Browse to locate the database design document on your system or enter the path to the file in the text field.

Process Server Bus Member Location

Specifies the location / destination of the Process Server bus. The destinations can be the local deployment target or on a remote target. Use the On this deployment target and On a remote deployment target radio buttons in this panel to indicate the appropriate location.

Bus members are always hosted locally for stand-alone server profiles.

On this deployment target

Select this radio button if the Bus Member will be configured on this server or cluster.

On a remote deployment target

Select this radio button if the Bus Member will be configured on another server or cluster (not the server or cluster you are currently configuring).

If you select On a remote deployment target, use the associated drop-down list to specify the remote target you want to use. The drop-down list shows all deployment targets.

Performance Data Warehouse Location

Specifies the deployment target on which you plan to configure Performance Data Warehouse. The destinations can be the local deployment target or on a remote target. Use the On this deployment target and On a remote deployment target radio buttons in this panel to indicate the appropriate location.

Note: The selection you make does not configure the Performance Data Warehouse. The selection you make specifies the planned location for the Performance Data Warehouse, to which Process Server will connect.

On this deployment target

Select this radio button if the planned deployment target location of the Performance Data Warehouse will be on this server or cluster.

On a remote deployment target

Select this radio button if the planned deployment target location of the Performance Data Warehouse will be on another server or cluster (not the server or cluster you are currently configuring).

If you select On a remote deployment target, use the associated drop-down list to specify the remote location you on which the Performance Data Warehouse will reside. The drop-down list shows all deployment targets.
