Upgrading IBM Case Manager to IBM Business Automation Workflow

 Traditional:
You can augment your case installation with an IBM® Business Automation Workflow topology while preserving your existing case data and navigator configuration.

To ensure that you choose the appropriate path for the upgrade, review the requirements and support considerations in Preparing to upgrade IBM Case Manager to IBM Business Automation Workflow.

There are two approaches for upgrading your IBM Case Manager system to Business Automation Workflow. The recommended approach is to reuse Content Platform Engine and IBM Content Navigator for all IBM Case Manager upgrade environments, even for non-production environments.
Upgrade using an external IBM Content Navigator
The only approach for production environments, due to performance requirements: Upgrade IBM Case Manager to Business Automation Workflow, but keep the IBM Case Manager topology similar to the one before the upgrade. This approach minimizes the impact on other IBM products that use the IBM Content Navigator.
This approach reuses the following components:
  • Content Platform Engine (external to Business Automation Workflow)
  • Content Platform Engine database
  • IBM Content Navigator (external to Business Automation Workflow)
Important: For production environments, you need an external IBM Content Navigator. Note that IBM Forms (deprecated) and eForms (deprecated) are not supported with an external IBM Content Navigator configuration.
  • IBM Content Navigator database
Upgrade using the embedded IBM Content Navigator
Optional approach for non-production environments: Upgrade IBM Case Manager to Business Automation Workflow and use the IBM Content Navigator embedded in Business Automation Workflow. With this approach, the changes to the IBM Case Manager environment are smaller, but you will need to reconfigure other systems that rely on IBM Content Navigator. You can use this approach only for non-production environments.
This approach reuses the following components:
  • Content Platform Engine
  • Content Platform Engine database
  • IBM Content Navigator database
  • (Deprecated) eForms or IBM Forms
Important: Forms are supported only with an embedded IBM Content Navigator configuration. To maintain your ability to easily create user interfaces for your case or task pages, you may want to modernize your forms by replacing them with client-side human services.
