Aspera Connect for Outside Users

Aspera Connect is a free, lightweight, install-on-demand software program that powers high-speed transfers between desktops and Aspera servers.

Aspera on Cloud provides several ways for you to collaborate with outside users; an outside user is an Aspera on Cloud user outside your workspace, or a user without a Aspera on Cloud account. Depending on the permissions configured, you can:

  • Send files and folders to an outside user.
  • Share folders with an outside user.
  • Invite an outside user to send files and folders to you or to an Aspera on Cloud shared inbox.

When the outside user attempts to access content you've sent or shared, or to send content to you, Aspera on Cloud prompts them to download and install Aspera Connect—the same software your computer uses to transfer content between your local machine and another location. Aspera on Cloud supports Connect on both Windows and Mac OS, and in the most common browsers for each platform.

The download and installation are quick and simple, and Aspera on Cloud guides users through the process. See the procedures in Installation.
Important: You may need to remind your colleague that they must install the Connect app once on their computer, but they must install the Connect extension for each browser (except Safari and Internet Explorer) they'll use to access Aspera on Cloud.
