Installing products on IBM Cloud™ Private

IBM® Business Automation Configuration Container is a tool to install your automation containers on IBM Cloud Private and Cloud Automation Manager.

About this task

To use the configuration tool for your container deployments, you must download an IBM Passport Advantage® archive, load the container images, install the Business Automation Configuration Container Helm chart, and then follow the steps in the user interface.

Business Automation Configuration Container provides the following benefits:

  • Rapid deployment of containers.
  • Options for configuring monitoring and logging.
  • Option for verifying a container deployment.
  • Option for initializing a container deployment.

Each of the product options requires prerequisite steps to prepare the environment and to configure supporting software. Review these preparation steps and the full installation procedures for your components before you start the installation process.   • Planning for product installation and metering
    Before you install IBM Business Automation Configuration Container and any IBM Digital Business Automation for Multicloud product, it is important to understand the entitlement of each license, and how you can measure the usage of your deployments. Usage metrics help you to ensure that the sum of all CPU limits do not exceed the Virtual Processing Cores (VPC) entitlements on all virtual servers.
  • Prerequisites
    You must install IBM Business Automation Configuration Container before you can install any other product or component of IBM Digital Business Automation for Multicloud.
  • Loading your purchased container images
    Before you can install IBM Business Automation Configuration Container, and use it to install the products of IBM Digital Business Automation for Multicloud, you must download your purchased product files and then load the container images into IBM Cloud Private. The catalog load-archive command processes, loads, tags, and pushes the images.
  • Installing configuration containers
    The IBM Business Automation Configuration Container helm chart can be configured with a set of parameters to modify the default settings, name the release, and select the namespace.
  • Installing automation containers from the user interface
    The IBM Business Automation Configuration Container user interface uses a step-by-step approach to configure and install your product deployments. One or more products can be installed in a single deployment. In a deployment with two or more products, resources such as an LDAP connection can be shared.
  • Installing automation containers from the command line
    You must install IBM Business Automation Configuration Container and edit a job container YAML file (jobs.yml) before you can deploy any other IBM Digital Business Automation for Multicloud product from the command line. IBM Business Automation Workflow on Cloud Automation Manager cannot be installed from the command line.
  • Completing post-deployment tasks
    For some deployments, additional steps are required to ensure the functionality of the environment.
  • Troubleshooting
    In most cases on IBM Cloud Private, problems occur with your pods, your replication, or your services.
